You know, I may inadvertently done something clever again. I mean, I was stunned when I was writing Stars, finally came up with a way for the ponies to win, and went back over the chapters I'd already written and realised I'd given them all the clues and Chekov's Arsenal they needed, but this time...

OK - given that, somewhat to my annoyance, seaponies will be appearing in MLP:FiM books in the next few months, I've had to start The Shadow Over Hinnysmouth before canon invalidates my plot. But I need good names for various ponies employed in the hospitality industry, and for the various Hinnysmouth hybrids. Any suggestions? Puns always welcome.

    Teaser

"The Elements of Harmony are not the only elements. Consider the alchemical quartet - Earth, Air, Fire, Water. The symbolism is obvious, but with it the imperfection. The Earth Pony race, strong and durable. The Pegasi, of course. And the Unicorns in whom the spark of magic is kindled to a blaze. Robustus, Pegasus, Monoceras. What, then, of Hippocampus?"

    The Shadow 0ver Hinnysmouth

Since it seems to have become my niche, I'm brainstorming the next MLP/HPL piece - Lyra and a certain degenerate seaside town. Riffing on the Lyra as Seapony meme, of course. A salt-drunk pegasus named Mackerel Sky as an Expy of Zadok Allen is a must, too. But I don't want it to be a poor ripoff of The Shadow Over Innsmouth either....

On the other hand, the plot is coming together nicely. Anybody want to beta it?

Shallow Tide, the surfing instructor? Pay no attention to the fact that when the tide goes out like that it means you're about to get a tidal wave. For hybrids... hum. Maybe Coral Fantasia, who probably is an artist? Not getting much good ideas for them.

526897 Actually, those are rather good :) thanks :) I did come up with Surfin' Turf - the earth pony who looks after the hotel gardens, but spends a lot of time in the water too :twilightsheepish:

Well, now that I'm awake again, because you liked those ones.. have a few more random name ideas!

Tidy Tipper, the bellhop. Yes, he knows his name has a pun in it, and he'd like people to stop pointing it out. Aqua Sprout, a local sea plant farmer. Shady Palms, the hotel's local gambling shark. And hammock napper. Storm Surge, the local weathermare. Dainty Dinner, as the hotel cook. And Germaphobe. Wet Blanket, comedian wannabee and hotel bartender. And.. hum. I want to make some sort of mopping things up pun for the local maid/custodian, but I can't seem to think of one.

As for a hybrid.. Spiral Dance could work both for a dancer, and to make a DNA reference, and Sandy Comb could work as the local beach clean up dude, which also lets him hide any annoying evidence that might wash up...

Anyway, use, abuse, or ignore these suggestions as you will.

528547 Hah, yes, I'll certainly use some of those. Oh even just Comber - a word with double meaning already :)

And a few more that came to mind..

True Twinkle, the local astronomare, with an interest in making sure she finds the correct star. Deep Current, the local philosopher who also has an interest in deep sea diving. Something about thinking up her best thoughts in the depths. Trice Shining, who runs the local lighthouse (If their is one). Knot Working, a sailor on vacation. Pole Star, a navigator and explorer with an interest in polling people. Glassy Swell, Local aquatic specialist veterinarian. Fishy Eye, Detective at large. (And hopefully not actually a hybrid) Tow Under, the town drunk and diving instructor.

And that's all for now. If I'm being a bit too enthusiastic, sorry, I just have a fun time coming up with pictures in my head of new characters.

529977 Oh, those are all very clever - even if I don't use them, I really appreciate the brilliance of those jokes :)

looking forward to the release of Shadow over Hinnysmouth, can't wait to get acquainted with a Cap'tn Seabed Marsh! :P
