You know, I may inadvertently done something clever again. I mean, I was stunned when I was writing Stars, finally came up with a way for the ponies to win, and went back over the chapters I'd already written and realised I'd given them all the clues and Chekov's Arsenal they needed, but this time...

    Shoo Be Doo

OK - given that, somewhat to my annoyance, seaponies will be appearing in MLP:FiM books in the next few months, I've had to start The Shadow Over Hinnysmouth before canon invalidates my plot. But I need good names for various ponies employed in the hospitality industry, and for the various Hinnysmouth hybrids. Any suggestions? Puns always welcome.

"The Elements of Harmony are not the only elements. Consider the alchemical quartet - Earth, Air, Fire, Water. The symbolism is obvious, but with it the imperfection. The Earth Pony race, strong and durable. The Pegasi, of course. And the Unicorns in whom the spark of magic is kindled to a blaze. Robustus, Pegasus, Monoceras. What, then, of Hippocampus?"

    The Shadow 0ver Hinnysmouth

Since it seems to have become my niche, I'm brainstorming the next MLP/HPL piece - Lyra and a certain degenerate seaside town. Riffing on the Lyra as Seapony meme, of course. A salt-drunk pegasus named Mackerel Sky as an Expy of Zadok Allen is a must, too. But I don't want it to be a poor ripoff of The Shadow Over Innsmouth either....

The two ponies clung to the ledge outside the hotel window. The night wind, sharp with chill and the stink of seaweed, whistled past them and over the rooftop below.

"You know," said Lyra thoughtfully "If we had hands we could climb down that drain-pipe."

Bon-Bon gritted her teeth and pressed herself against the wall behind her. "If we get out of this, Lyra, you're never picking our holiday destination again."

Huzzah! a ponization of a classic eldritch horror tale, I look forward to it sir! nice to see it fitting in with other parts of your work as well, good old Ivory Tower, :D

435980 Well, it won't necessarily be the same universe as Stars. Certainly I don't intend to reference the events of Stars in this one. But it should still be fun :)

never implied that it was in the same universe, just that you had occasional tie in components which appeared in your work like Lovecraft, for example Alhazred is always the Writer of the Necronomicon and Lovecraft often mentions Cthulhu or Nyarlathotep as well, sort of overlapping themes, entities or objects. in this case it seems that its Ivory Tower and the Neighcronomicon :)

also on a unrelated note, do you how long it roughly takes for the mods to approve stories? I have sort of been sitting here for about six hours waiting for them.... (sorry for drawing away, I was sort of desperate to ask someone)

438539took a couple of days for mine to be processed... but re: the quote, yes, that's certainly my intention - to open each story with a quote from Ivory Tower :) maybe even each part of the Stars sequal, too :)
