Don't play with knives... · 12:59am Jul 31st, 2020
Hey, everyone.
So, today I received a balisong (butterfly) knife I ordered, and did a few opening tricks with it. At first, I was having a good bit of fun while doing it... however, when I wasn't paying close attention and was absently flipping it in a bizarre way, I ended up slicing into my right-hand little finger, slightly inward of the middle of the fingertip front. It really hurt , and bled quite heavily for about 20 minutes. Had to use a gauze dressing and pressure until the bleeding stopped, and from there, poured hydrogen peroxide on it and applied antibiotic ointment to it (I assume these emoticons leave nothing more to the imagination to describe what treating the cut was like).
Right now, a few hours later, it seems to be okay. No sign of infection, or anything to that effect. However, it's still throbbing, despite taking some Tylenol. I imagine it may have to stay bandaged for a week or two. My parents (one of whom was a US Navy medic, and the other a hair stylist who cuts themselves constantly) said it's not deep enough to require stitches.
So, let this be an important lesson for everyone who wants to get themselves a carry knife, or just regularly handles anything with a blade... don't play with knives. I learned that the hard way. In retrospect, I really should never have let my short attention span get the better of me when handling an instrument that, out of the box, was SUPER sharp. In any case, it may slow down my current outlining and planning for future stories (unless I use voice recognition software... which I really don't want to do, because I just don't like how you have to constantly correct it ).
In any case, now I know to pay careful attention when handling any bladed instrument. I'll probably avoid using that balisong for a while, and just stick with my trusty stiletto switchblade.
But everyones mother or father tell there kids dont play with knives.
Good for you. Better be careful about Art Strings. And i mean about a certain Frenchman

Apparently, I didn't take that advice... especially after not hearing it for years.

Yeah, you're definitely right about that!

Yeah. O actually meant her Meeting Said Frenchman.
Do butterfly knives not have a safe handle where, if you make a wrong move, the blunt side will hit your finger instead of the sharp side?

They do, but let's just say... I was absently flipping it and not really paying attention, and moved my fingers in such a way that my right-hand little finger tensed over the blade as I swung it out, slicing it. Now I know I should've been focusing a little better when handling a bladed instrument.
