    PP vs. What I've Become

Knight Breeze's What I've Become might not be a name you've heard before, but given its stats, especially the over 60,000 views, I feel safe calling it a fandom classic. :) Major spoilers ahead for a ten-year-old story!

Fic recs, May 20th: Project Get! #17!

Hey! :D Welcome back to Project Get!, where I sort my RIL by views and grab the last 10 on the list that aren't sequels, unfinished, or by the same author twice! I've been trying to do this a lot more frequently, but 'frequent' has not exactly described these blogs out of me, has it? D: I dunno if that could change in the near future. I've got outpatient surgery on Wednesday this week, so I'm

The only other thing relevant to this blog is that I've had notes for a vs. post sitting in my notes document for probably the entire month now, what is wrong with me? D:

Fic recs, April 22nd: Jordan179 edition

Once again, though a good bit late, I bring it upon myself to memorialize an author via reviews of their stories. Though this time, it's different, as I had no connection to Jordan179 and only learned of his passing (three years ago this month, coincidentally), from this post

Not quite on topic, but you never know who may be interested and/or generous: SCP Foundation founder and icon Dr. Gears has cancer and is currently in need of monetary assistance to pay for treatment. The GoFundMe explains all.

My newest reading is Estee's Awsome Ass Hear!

Like I said last time, I'm taking a quick break from new audiobook readers to get some regular reading done. Here's ALL the short fics off my RIN, plus a few more I wanted to get read for reasons.

Face Ghosts by Majin Syeekoh
Review #6200!
Genre: Feghoot
Vinyl Scratch tries to massage the ghosts out of Rarity's face.
Well, that was a story I sure did read just now. :B I couldn't shake the feeling that it should have been Lyra with the cockamamie idea about face ghosts instead of Vinyl, but maybe that was the point. This is silly butt fun.

Why can't Rarity just ask Twilight the question?
I'm not sure what drew me to this, but it's a very standard shipfic, just some internal drama as Rarity angsts over being unable to ask Twilight on a date. No real reasons given for why she's interested, either. The various typos can be forgiven as I get the feeling this was dashed off in a hurry; hopefully it gave the author what they were looking for.

Genre: Dark Comedy
Twilight, much to her own consternation, has died.
That's a really good description, but while this story is funny, it's not as funny as it would maybe like you to think. Oh, I had a good time with the Reaper scene (though I just recently read a story about Pinkie having the exact same experience), and Twilight's reaction throughout is what sells this. Just don't get your hopes up for a gut-buster.

Futa Mares: An Edgar Allen Poe Story by WhatDidIJustRead
Mature: Sex, Fetish
Sequel to Futa Mares: A Dr. Seuss Story
Genre: Pony on Human but It's Funny 'Cuz The Raven
I mean, there's no way I'm reading the first one and not reading the sequel, right? And this was everything the first story didn't quite get right. If you thought that was funny, you will love this. Dude got the The Raven just about perfect. :D

Whenever she's around Wallflower Blush, Sunset feels a little flutter of emotion inside.
I have never read sex fic so dedicated to be cute and adorable and, dare I say it, wholesome. To be sure, it avoids vulgarity, focusing instead on the emotional and physical connections, so this qualifies as Good Porn. One might take it to task for flinging Sunset and Wallflower together so quickly, but they are very aware of how quickly they're moving, and they keep double-checking to make sure things aren't moving faster than the other wants. That's good! It's okay to do things so long as your partner is fine with it.

Detective jakkid166's Love Lessons by jakkid166
Mature: Sex, Profanity
Genre: Trollfic
Detective jakkid166 teaches a guy about sex because that's a thing he can do.
So this is apparently a parody of another story, but it doesn't matter if you know that because some random other human showing up in Equestria is part and parcel for a jakkid fic. What can I say? I had a good time laughing with this story even if there is more pony sex than normal. You might maybe even learn a thing though I don't recommend it, that cat seemed suspect.

Twilight has a great idea for getting students in the new School of Friendship.
Oh look, it's a much better story than the actual season 8 premiere with a much better backstory for Cozy Glow than the one they didn't actually give us. :V And it's hilarious. This is a fic for people who like laughing at Scootaloo, because the tragicomedy is off the charts. Just a good time. Highly Recommended for Terrible People

Genre: This might actually be fanfiction
Scootaloo tutors her friends in math.
This is almost a blog post. Almost. Trust Super Trampoline to not only ride that line but effectively dodge around it. It's just rambly as all get-out, but there is a throughline, a hint if you will, of plot. Granted, that plot is mostly summed up and exists to call back to an older, unpublished story? What? Regardless, and not to overhype, this is something of a surreal experience. What else can you expect?

Littlepip Goes to the Grocery Store by initforfanfiction
Genre: Pony Does X
I think this might be the first time I've ever used Fimfetch for a fic review. <.< I don't know how I found out about this story, but once I did, I had to read it. That said, I was not expecting it to be… this. I mean, the main joke — if that term can even be used here — is that this is the main cast of Fallout: Equestria just… living together as roommates? And Littlepip goes to the store. I'm pretty sure this is not taking place in the Wasteland, there's a scene that might parody the main conflict of the story, but otherwise, this is played really straight. The only outwardly funny thing is a moment where LP gets caught acting goofy when she thought no one was watching. I'm really not sure what to make of this, but I have to admit disappointment. It's well written, but I'd expected something funnier.

An Unfortunate Daily Occurrence by little big pony

The human is trying to woo Bon-Bon again. Worse, her wife is helping him.
This is just some good LyraBon fun. :) You get the sense Lyra is helping this schmuck because she wants to get in on the human action, plus it does a good job reconciling the "Agent Sweetie Drops" nonsense with Bon-Bon's storied fanon personality. I enjoyed this.

Bridges and Guides by Coyote de la Mancha
Prequel to Cadence of the Crystal Empire
Genre: Dark
Alone on a bridge in the cold night, a filly meets a stranger.
I hate to put it this way — in part because it'll give the whole thing away — but this is basically Final Dreams of a Filly done well. I mean, all OCs, obviously, not Scootaloo, but this is how you write a story about someone dying and the impact it has on those who love them without being melodramatic. Interesting figure in John, too. I will say that, being part of a continuity, it's not exactly obvious where this fits into any of Coyote's other stories, so it can be easily approached with no previous knowledge.

Autumnfall Change by MSPiper
Read by Fimfiction
Genre: Sci-Fi/Transformation
I've been watching MSPiper long enough that I've forgotten how I know them (sorry), yet they're just now posting their first story? :O Wow. Suggested somewhat by the two-word title, the two scenes of this piece almost feel like two different stories. The first deals with introducing the characters and their shared world, the way they communicate, and other granular sci-fi concepts. The second features Serendipity, our outrageously-named pony protagonist, casting a spell and finding out the hard way that this was a bad idea. It's kind of a downer ending, all things considered, but one that simply came about by… Oh, by serendipity, I get it now. Regardless, this does have a really original approach to pony/human interactions, focused strongly on sensation and perception and how different they are. I have never seen, for instance, a sci-fi fic delve into an idea like color screens not being usable by other species with different eyes, but it makes a ton of goddamn sense. Suffice to say, this is interesting and well-written enough that it should hold anyone's attention.

You Say Goodbye by Mitch H
Sequel to Twilight in Plain Sight
Genre: EQG AU Drama
Rainbow Dash has spent so much time being Blitz, she's forgotten who she is.
This isn't so much a continuation of Twilight in Plain Sight as it is a look behind the scenes. The Rainbow Dash we saw in that story wasn't a focus, a pregnant ostensibly lesbian biker who gave Wind Rider something else to angst about. But here, she's complex, and we get to learn more about both her and Fluttershy's histories in this world. This is literally just a story about a woman looking at herself in the mirror and letting her mind wander and it's so good, you guys. D: Ugh. I hope people enjoy this as much as I did.

Rarity and the Rhinoceros by Vertigo22

In her defense, Rarity had really needed a guard animal for the boutique.
This is a very cute and goofy little piece, just some good fun at Rarity's expense because, y'know, she doesn't always think ideas through. Won't blow anyone's mind, but I had a good time with it.

Lulz, that fic is gayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

‘You Say Goodbye’ really struck me as having a bisexual Rainbow Dash rather than a lesbian one.

You found out about Littlepip Goes to the Grocery Store because I read it when it was still a story on FIMFiction and the review came out after the author went AWOL and you were all like "Wat's up with that bloke?"

Also, I might have to utilize this "FIMFetch" thingamajig. Every once in a while I'll have a story on my lists that disappears once it's time has come and I'm all "WTF but I wanna read that c'mon maaaaan!"

Ara

I am both aroused and confused that anybody would recommend one of my stories.

Give me your face

I remember quite enjoying All Our Times Have Come. The comedy just worked for me.

This was one where I fully expected you to put the genre as just being my user name.

Thanks for reviewing that story. I was disappointed there were no stories featuring rhinoceroses on the site. They're one of my favorite animals.

Well yeah, she's not a lesbian, just hooked up with a dyke biker gang. She even mentions Gilda berating her for not being a good lesbian.

When stories disappear from my RIL, ain't no way I'll know. About the only time I read deleted fics is when the audiobook came out years ago. I rarely come across any URLs I've actually saved that are gone, and should I, I'll probably just remove them from my list unless I remember the title or something. :B

5190868
You're always pushing those boundaries. :P

5190884
True, but ‘supposedly lesbian’ just sounded weird and assuming that the character was either gay or straight just from how it was worded.

Maybe I meant 'ostensibly'. :B It wasn't obvious in the first story, is my point.

Of course, that’s understandable.

Of the things you're busy doing—reading, writing, and reviewing—
It is easy to imagine that you've not much time to spare.
It's a true and honest pleasure that you'd think my fic a treasure,

It's an honor to have earned a thing so cherishably rare.
Glad you liked the futa mares.
