One of these again. · 9:24am Nov 14th, 2012
So, I feel like talking, and since I don't have anyone physical to talk to, I'm gonna talk at you guys. And what am I gonna talk about? What's this site about again?
That's right, ponies.
First order of business, what's with the RariJack brigade lately? I realize that the pairing has always been there, but why's it so popular recently? Is it because of the new episode? Because I'm seeing people all over saying RariJack is now canon. And not just the rabid shippers taking things the wrong way, I mean people honestly putting that idea out there like they kissed onscreen or something. I've been told I can argue against it, but I won't win. Luckily, I have my own blog to rant about it in. Yay!
Honestly, it's not much to say. Sure, AJ seemed kinda flirty, but at best it was a lame pun that would have made Pinkie giggle and Fluttershy crack a smile. It's just a friend teasing another friend while also reassuring her. Rarity, for her part, reacted as though AJ had just said something like "You're the prettiest mare around, even with your normal look." Basically, Rarity was overreacting. As per the norm.
Second point of interest, I liked King Sombra. I like the thought of a unicorn who prefers the physical approach, but uses his magic on the side. Like a superhero who works a day job but uses his powers for fun on the weekend. That's what I'd do. Plus, I'm pretty sure his growls were provided by Scott McNeill, and I'm a fan of his work. Or maybe I just like villains. That's probably it. I like all the FiM villains and antagonists.
Except Diamond Tiara. Or maybe Gilda, but even Gilda could be cool if she dropped her jerkass, cooler-than-you schtick. You know that's just a mask to look cooler. I'll bet she's actually a pretty chill chick in private, away from society's judgemental eyes.
Actually, I'll bet Diamond Tiara could be likeable if she grew up. Literally and metaphorically, because children are awful and I don't like any of them. No, with age and a serious reality check, imagine what Diamond could be. If her Daddy stops coddling her, and she gets a serious hit to her world view, making her see what a bitch she is and how she could be applying her money and talents to make the world a better place. And she has talents. I like the Lunaverse group's theory that her cutie mark represents her talent for accessorizing.
So, picture a teenaged Diamond Tiara, after having apprenticed with some fancy design pony like Rarity or Photo Finish, working in a salon or boutique, applying her eye for fashion to customers. She'd need a partner, which leads me to my next point: Snips is underused. Snips' mark is a pair of scissors, implying his talent is cutting. So, unless he's secretly a ponyfied Goemon Ishikawa, training to be a samurai specializing in cutting objects with his Zantetsuken, he'll probably be a barber or hairdresser.
So, Diamond Tiara and Snips run a shop where ponies can get a manecut and new accessories. We'll say that Diamond stopped being so snooty and that Snips stopped being so short and pudgy, instead being just slightly overweight, Together, they make ponies look good and have a thriving business. They work together, plan together, and become friends, then later become lovers.
I know, I know. Since when does the chubby loser ever get the girl? This is a show about talking, magical, brightly colored miniature equines. Get some perspective. The improbable is normal here.
So, to sum up, RariJack is not canon, Sombra had an awesome voice, Gilda's a pretty cool cat, and there needs to be a name for Diamond Tiara x Snips. And finally, someone write the "Samurai Snips" story. Because if I do, it'll be weird.
Thanks for reading! Peace off.
