Quick Notes on The Finale (spoilers) · 4:47am Oct 13th, 2019
Well, the series finale has aired, and with it, the show has come to an end. A part of me is sad, but I'm also glad it actually got to do a proper finale instead of just being cancelled.
As for the finale itself:
I had some idea what to expect, because people rushed to put screencaps up on Derpi as soon as it was leaked. That said however, even having some idea about some of the events, it still didn't go as I expected. A small example is that I knew Grogar was actually Discord, but I thought he was trying to get Chrysalis, Tirek, and Cozy Glow to realize the value of friendship, leading them to reform as he did.
A larger example is "The Final Problem." I thought the coronation took place at "The End of The End," and that "The Final Problem" was entirely focused on the future, with Luster Dawn being the main focus. I did not realize it was the set up of a flashback, and having things come full circle (a brilliant unicorn who sees no value in friendship being sent to Ponyville). It was still entertaining, and I enjoyed it, but like I said, not what i thought.
My only complaint is that I would have liked if The Treehouse of Harmony had played a larger role in it. It was set up in the premiere, and I feel like it should have been a part of the finale. Even watching, when I saw Trixie leading the students down into the tunnels, I figured they were heading to the treehouse to hide out, but that was not the case.
That said, I am glad that they had The Student Six play such a vital role. Although it was a little strange seeing two extra characters in the same role and doing the same thing, it was nice to see them using what they learned to talk sense into their groups and rally them all to help defend Equestria. I also loved how they had three generations of heroes come together and use the power of their friendship to defeat the villains.
Yeah, I'm sad to see it go, but I'm happy I got to see it end, and am curious to see what comes next.
Well said. I watched the finale over a month ago and man has it been divisive to say the least. Im also glad the series got a proper conclusion and not end on a cliffhanger (still waiting for Reboot’s ending). Even though the main show is at an end, im looking forward to the stories talented writers like yourself and others will produce now that the finale is out in the open.
I couldn't have said what YOU said any better myself. :-D Yeah, the finale wasn't perfect, but it at least had exactly the right mix of bittersweet and optimistic to end the series on.
