Chapter 2 of the reboot of Not All Who Wander Are Lost is up and active. Unfortunately, I have discovered that publishing an update of an old chapter does not send out notifications that a new chapter has been published--at least as far as popping up in the 'latest updates' and fimfic notifications is concerned. Honestly, I'm not sure what I'll do with the new chapters of the reboot beyond this. Considering that the changes in these coming chapters are significant compared to the original 2012/2013 drafts, I deem them to be brand new chapters, and thus I could delete the previous chapters and publish the new ones that way. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I would loose almost all the old comments that way. But, at the same time, I feel any readers not interested in NAWWAL might find a new blog post every two days (at least for the next 20 or so days until the rewrites of the first 13 chapters are up) to be annoying. I'll have to think about future means of posting new chapters, but for now: NAWWAL, Chapter 2 up. Quite different from the last draft. Read if you wish. Have some cute crusader art.
Old comments are dope. It's great to laugh at the dork past C2 was (or sometimes wonder how he's so much smarter than present C2)
I’ve faced this very problem and navigated it successfully!
I have a longfic that I published 11 chapters of before going back and retooling the whole thing. I unpublished all but chapter 1, renamed chapters 2-11 as “Old Chapter 2” (etc.), then just began reposting everything as new chapters. The old versions are still there, along with their comments. And—this is key—chapter 1 is still the original chapter 1, just edited. That means I got to keep my original view count from before I started reworking things.

Ah, that's the work around. Funny enough, I looked at your long fic (it's in my read later, and I'll get to it eventually. Scout's honor) because I remember that it would pop into the 'recent updates' tab but the old comments remained. I'll need to try that from chapter 3 onward. Thanks for the pointer!

If you're gonna go that route, consider at least making the new chapters precede the old chapters, that way the "current experience" is at the forefront for readers, which should relegate the old stuff toward the back so that those interested in the difference can then proceeded and compare. Also, I'd personally keep the old chapters unpublished until the whole of the rewrite is published, so there's no confusion or spoilers for those just now diving in.
