Story Spotlight - The Flower Mare · 9:11am May 7th, 2019
Shh, I didn't totally forget to do these. Nope, not at all...
*cough*
A-Anyway. It's time to show off what is possibaly my favourite set of stories on the whole site. Hell, these are probably my favourite fanfictions. Period!
Introducing.
The Flower Mare. By my good buddy Flammenwerfer
This series follows an earth pony mare named Schneeblume. One that has survived a horrific war and now owns a little flower shop in Ponyville. Over the course of the stories, she makes new friends, makes peace with memories firmly rooted in the past, and learns to put her best hoof forward for her future.
Honestly, I'm at a bit of a loss here. I don't quite know how to review these stories without spoiling anything.
So... I won't spoil any of the story, because you NEED to read these. The sheer emotion these stories evoke is... okay, simply thinking about these fics while I write this is giving me goosebumps. Flamm's writing ascends to a whole other level when he pumped these out. This is writing I can only hope to acheive in the future.
The linked one is the first story, with two sequels in the form of 'Seele' and 'Unbroken'. There's also two spinoff stories with 'Rainfall's Shroud' and 'Tending Flowers'. The latter I cannot link for Fimfic's ToS.
Now, these stories aren't for the faint of heart. They do have graphic scenes of war, and the trauma that follows after. So, a little heads up if that kind of thing doesn't sit well with you. That said, they are more than stories. Schnee's words are a journey with her. A mare that feels she has lost everything, only to find she has so much more to gain. Seeing her over the course of these stories, she's very much become one of my favorite pony OC's.
And a special note to Flamm. Thankyou. Thank you for giving us these amazing stories my friend. You are truly an inspiration. And honestly, if it wasn't for these stories. For the others you write and my other friends (Y'all know who you are) I'd have probably let my depression win and given up writing. You're part of the reason I'm still going. So... thanks mate.
To everyone else, I hope these stories inspire you as well. I hope the journey they take you on just as amazing, emotional and satisfying as it was for me.
