Another Pre-Reader Request · 12:59am Mar 12th, 2018

(24,000 words, not Equestria Girls related.)

While I was busy writing "Equestrian Business" (still not done, by the way), I had the bad luck to read "We Can Do This Forever" by Empirical Deduction and "Twilight Fights Starlight for Eternity" by Diamond Aura in quick succession. "Bad" in that I suddenly had to write something on the subject of "Starlight and Twilight go through time loops for all eternity".

Being a fan of Star Trek: The Next Generation, my immediate reaction was that these two couldn't loop the same couple of hours of time over and over again without somebody noticing. My first instinct was to write a story about a dragon or Princess Celestia investigating, saying that their longevity made them sensitive to time disruptions. The dragon story would be too short, and end with a squished Starlight. The Celestia story I started plotting out wound up getting too close to "Little Glimpses" by Skijarama. And then I thought of Maud--she has a high sympathy with rocks, some of which are even older than dragons or Celestia. and the idea of throwing Maud into the middle of that particular shouting match...well I had to write that. And so "An Eternity of Rocks" was born.

(The cover pic, which I spent as much time fussing over as I did writing the story.)

I don't really need any major help with this story--it's finished, and only took me two weeks to write. But I said I would put my future stories up for pre-reading to avoid the flaws that I only tend to see six months after I publish something. So I'm going to very briefly open the floodgates for this novella. If you follow this link to Google Docs, you'll be able to read the whole thing and comment on it to your heart's content. I'll publish the story by this time next week. And if I actually follow the advice you give me, I'll give you a shout-out in the all-important "Credits & Acknowledgements" chapter.
