I have a new short story on Twitter + Emberwolf update · 11:24pm Mar 8th, 2018

If you've ever enjoyed anything of mine on Fimfic, there's a more-than-good chance you'll enjoy this story I wrote for Twitter too. It's very short (like, the whole thing comes in at about 1,500 words), and, best of all, I did artwork/photographs for every single tweet! It tells the story of a young unicorn named Sophie, who has to save her brother from a terrible monster.

Here's the link. If you enjoy it, then please like/retweet it and stuff (or, preferably, retweet this). I will actually love you forever, no joke.

Emberwolf news

It's almost done!

That said, huge apologies for stalling so badly. The last two months have been properly busy -- not just because of Sophie, but mainly because of stuff like job hunting + uni work and such. But it's coming, I promise. I can't put an exact date on it since life is still gonna be hectic for the foreseeable future (without getting into it, I have about ten weeks to write and edit an entire kid's novel :fluttershbad:), but I'm hopeful it'll be sooner rather than later.

An entire story on Twitter, wow!

4812882 Hey, it can be done. A lot, too.

A Small Fiction on Twitter

That's adorable! I especially loved reading the titles of the books at the entrance to the cave of books.

You should try to get this published! Do note that:

1. Color photos make a printed book expensive. So do glossy pages, I think.

2. Picture books are made from sheaves of 8 pages. This is non-negotiable, since the printing equipment is, surprisingly, not designed to use the sheets of paper you get in your book, but giant sheets that are folded over twice and then cut along one edge to make 8 pages. These are then glued into the book by being glued to the end sheets.

Usually, picture books are made from 4 sheaves, and so have 32 pages. At least 2 will be used for copyright+title, so you get a max of 30 pages. But sometimes the front and back pages are glued to another sheet that's glued to the binding, so you get a max of 28 pages. If the publisher wants a list of other books, you get a max of 27. If you go over their limit, you have to add another sheaf of 8 pages.

That means publishers have a preferred number of pages, depending on which printing process they use. So these are common target page numbers: 27-30, 35-38, 43-46.

You've got 34, which is good enough, I think. But be aware of this.

3. There are already a lot of Sophie or Sophia Unicorns that will show up in a google search:
pottery barn doll
plush toy
book
a youtube video
Sophie's Unicorn blog
Sophia Unicorn from Jellycat
Sophie the Unicorn Dog
another Sophie the Unicorn blog
