I would like to open with a short clip of "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!" but there is no perfect clip of just that, to my knowledge.
Well, I'm assuming you've read the title. I suppose there's a chance that you accidentally clicked on this and the page changed before you could read the title. But, you've probably figured out what this is by now.
To those of you who have kept up with my "Author's Commentary" series or pay attention to author notes/comments, then you already knew this was coming. The sequel for Critical Mass. Some of you may not know this was planned, I guess.
So I am, as of today, on the 1 year anniversary of completing Reaction, announcing the highly delayed sequel to Critical Mass! (This was supposed to come out in mid to late January.)
The first chapter is still a work in progress. I really only have the first scene done, but I am quite pleased with it. At first, I wasn't sure about what I had written, but now I'm more sure about it. It will probably be a couple of weeks before I finish the chapter and I'm ready to publish it. College is time-consuming. Additionally, I'm still trying to figure out what this story actually is. I should know this, but it's like it's hidden to me. So right now, it lacks a description, which probably won't get written until after the first chapter is complete. I have a good idea of where it's going, but I feel like I need to hold off on that part... I haven't had as much free time to ponder and mull over things as I would like.
Tentative details:
- The story is titled "Radiant." It is the fourth story in this series.
- The story will be set in the Crystal Empire, around the time of the Crystal Faire, and a few weeks to two months after the events of Critical Mass. Twilight, Rainbow, Celestia, Luna, Cadance, Shining Armor, Flurry Heart, Starlight, Sunburst, and Spike will be characters in the story. Twilight, Rainbow, Cadance, Starlight, and Sunburst are likely to be the most featured characters.
- Cadance will play an important role.
- Celestia and Twilight may have an important discussion...
- The story will be much happier than Critical Mass, and will have a happy ending.
- Something good will happen.
- I am notoriously bad at estimating story lengths, but I am estimating this story should be about 45,000 words long (assuming 3 chapter @ approximately 15k words each). I am aiming for a shorter story this time. If this story does not end up being shorter, then I have done something terribly wrong.
- I do not know when the story will get published, nor do I know how often updates will be. (Although the updates may be less important due to only being 3 chapters long. There may be great time periods between them, however, due to other time-consuming activities.)
- I may consider writing the entire story before publishing it.
- In which case I will make a blog post about it and ask whether you would want it all released at once, or over time, say a chapter per week.
- The current chapter length is around 2.8k words. You can thank Hanif Shakiba for this progress. Without his motivation, it wouldn't be this far along (which is to say I probably would not have anything done).
I am, however, somewhat concerned about this story. This is entirely because of what happened at the end of Critical Mass. Twilight should have PTSD, but with the way I have Radiant planned, it's unlikely to come up as a major plot point (which is to say that nothing should trigger her to have a panic attack/break down. Nothing like that is planned as of right now). However, it [her trauma] may still be visible, just subtle.
I hope you're all excited! I know I'm excited. I'm thrilled for this story!
