Well...... Now I'm Stumped. · 7:44am Jan 21st, 2018
So, with my mind being a bit exhausted at thinking up new chapters for any of my stories, I had decided to take a break, and do some web browsing. While I did. I came across an art piece, that, while I can't post right now since I am at work, honestly it was as if someone had read my mind and done some art I was unaware of. So, you remember my story "Mother of the Night"?
Well, here's a tad bit of a spoiler that was gonna happen in my story. While Luna was originally his first adopted mother, she decided she was gonna need some backup in parenting. And, as unlikely as this setup may seem to some, I was going to have Twilight be his second mother. If you remember, I had teased she would be showing up in future chapters during my most recent chapter in the story. And Luna and Twilight, well, they were going to have that special bond you don't normally see.
Then I took a look at this art series this artist made, and the storyline was lining up very closely with my own idea. Now, be aware, I had not intended this to line up at al, so if anyone was aware that the story and art had a similar set up before hand, I tell you now, this was not plagiarism. It was just two minds having a similar idea, and this artist just seemed to be a few trots ahead of me. But now with this new found knowledge, I don't know what direction to take my story now. If I should push forward and still go with my original idea, or if I should backtrack and think up something new. I DON'T KNOW!!! SOMEPONY!!!! PLEASE HELP ME CHOOSE!!!
And if you can, explain your reasoning, other than just something like "Because I want it that way" or "Because I say so" or anything of that nature.
Please readers, I need your guidance.
Can you explain a little more about what this artist has that is making you second guess yourself?
I would say continue it.
There are plenty of stories that are similar.
If you tell the story your way, choose a different perspective, say if the series is mostly told through Luna's observations use Twilight's instead (or the kid), and add twists of your own, characters reacting differently etc.
Or reach out and suggest a collab where you provide the written story and the artist provides snapshots.
To be clear I'm not sure what art series you are referring to and I haven't (yet) read the story. These are just my thought's on the matter.
