Quick question · 4:31am Dec 13th, 2017

So, um, here's where things currently stand: I've finally managed to admit to myself that It's Not a Cold Dark Place is, unfortunately, never going to be finished. It's honestly crushing to have to type this -- I find it difficult to express how much that story means to me. On the other hand, the mere thought of going back to it is utterly exhausting. I messed up. And for that, I am truly sorry.

HOWEVER.

I've been reading through it tonight, and I think it's nearish enough to completion that, possibly, I can simply summerize what happens in the missing chapters/scenes, and still have it make enough sense for it to be readable? I won't lie, there would be be a lot missing from it -- but otherwise, is that something people might be interested in?

The other problem is that I've also spent the past few weeks working on what is effectively a spiritual successor to Cold Dark Place -- another long Scootaloo adventure that deals with the emotional fallout of her parents going through a divorce, and which features STARS and SPARKLY THINGS and GIANT TALKING WOLVES and stuff! I err... kinda wrote it on the assumption that Cold Dark Place would never see the light of day, and I'm very weary of effectively posting the same story twice. Or am I worrying about this too much?

(Also, heya fimfic, it's been a while! :pinkiehappy: Is there a consensus on which season 7 episodes are worth checking out? Literally, the only one I've seen is The Perfect Pear.)

It sounds to me like you are making progress writing again. If the "spiritual successor" is what you have inspiration for right now then go ahead and focus on that, see how far you can get with it and if you complete it then you can figure out what to do with It's Not a Cold Dark Place.

As for season seven episodes I'd recommend; Once Upon a Zeppelin, A Flurry of Emotions, Campfire Tales and Secrets and Pies.

Literally nobody will care that you upload a story similar to something written 5 years ago.

Post the successor! We wanna see it!

Also, watch season 7. Just all of it. Well, okay, maybe you can skip the first episode since it doesn't really do much, but season 7 in general is really solid stuff.

4747499 4747458 4747406 This is all really helpful, thank you!

Also, sounds like I have a lot of episodes to catch up on

Good to see you, Lucks. :pinkiehappy:

It's always good to see something from you, no matter what it is. :yay: Although, I admit, I may have some backlog to catch up to... :pinkiesad2:

As for the S7 episodes... Meh, I'm a single 32-year-old, what better do I have to do than watch pony anyways? :rainbowlaugh: I've watched them all, but can't really choose a favourite. However, now that your question actually made recheck the episode titles and descriptions, here are my picks (YMMV, though :trollestia:):
- go for 'Fluttershy Leans In' if you finally want to see some AssertiveShy :yay:
- give 'Parental Glideance' a glance if you want to see Rainbow's parents; they're a funny pair :rainbowkiss:
- look through 'A Royal Problem' for some neato Celestia-Luna interaction :trollestia:
- 'Not Asking for Trouble' is pretty cool if you've already seen some Ponk and the Yaks :pinkiehappy:
- 'Discordant Harmony' is a pretty solid slice-of-life between Shy and Discord :fluttershyouch:
- 'Fame and Misfortune' can be pretty interesting if you want to see a possible jab at fanbase's criticism towards the show :scootangel:
- 'Campfire Tales' are a must if you wanna see the finale, they will give a quick introduction to some of the ancient hero-ponies (each tale tells a pretty solid story on its own, too, and actually - they are far better IMHO than the finale itself :raritywink:)
- 'Secrets and Pies' is straight-up funny, as any RainbowPie episode should be :pinkiehappy::rainbowkiss:
- and of course 'The Perfect Pear' which you've already watched

Do whatever gets you writing.

I think Season 7 is the best since season 2 or at least 3! Still not on a par with season 2. Seasons 1 & 2 had a lot of shows that were emotionally powerful. Season 7 had a lot of shows that were cute and fun to watch, and not stupid. Still far below season 2, but a marked improvements over 4-6 IMHO.

I have trouble remembering which episode names go with which stories...

I didn't finish watching 7x1.
All Bottled Up was fun because Trixie.
Flurry of Emotions, Rock Solid Friendship, Not asking for trouble, Perfect Pear, Change a changeling, Isn't the mane thing, Marks & Recreation were all nice.
My top pick for s7 might be Once upon a zeppelin.

On the other hand, the mere thought of going back to it is utterly exhausting.
