An Explanation of Cores

Cores are the source of all magic of the world, every living being has it but not all things know of it. There are three Cores for each species, each of the Three Spirits created one core for every living creature. Without a barrier, the raw magic of the Cores can erode and destroy the physical form of any creature. Said erosion does not happen right away depending on how the barrier was removed. Damaging the barrier allows the raw magic to be used but at a cost, this slowly weakens and kills the one who did so if they do not either repair the barrier or remove it entirely. If the barrier was removed quickly there is a high chance that the spirit can survive but in this form it can be easily corrupted. The stronger a being is trained in their Core the more likely they are to take a form until this immense amount of power restores the barrier and their original form. If the spirit is damaged or even severed from the world they will be able to return but in an injured state or will even pass away shortly afterwards. The barrier itself soaks in this raw magic giving basic magic to all species. Alicorns are unique, they are the representation of the pony species so their Core represents all of the ponies Cores. The weaknesses of these Cores are their weaknesses but their strengths as well.

Each Core has Specializations, a specific classification of magic that a pony excels in. There are three Specializations per Core. Each of these Specializations are unique to the Core that they represent. Each have their own strengths and weaknesses. The Specializations weren’t a plan of the Spirits more of a way the ponies could classify certain talents within a field during a time of war.

There is a realm where this magic is found, this place was found by the Crystal Heart when it was searching for a gift to grant the world. Ponies call it the Core Realm but long ago it was known by a different name, The Fade. This place connects all realities and worlds through dreams and the realm of the dead. Not only is it the source of Magic but also the source of Corruption. The Corruption came from the Spirit of a being that was destroyed long ago. It found its way into the new world and corrupted one of first dragons beginning to spread to everything. Living things that were touched by this foul magic would become infected and its form twisted into something just as dark. Corruption not just twists the body but also the mind and personality of those infected turning them into ghouls, demons, or just husks.
