Mantles: Complete · 7:49pm Mar 26th, 2017

My story Mantles is done, Wonderfolk. Thank you to those who read it.

The story took me five years to write. That's way too long. I'm so glad it's over, and that it turned out as good as it did. Everything I wanted to be in the story from the get-go made it in, so to me this is a happy accomplishment.

Reception so far has been mostly positive, with some sentiments of disappointment. I understand. Even though I feel like I prepared for the fast ending with six or seven lightning fast chapters, it's hard to end a story like Mantles. I apologize to those of you who feel let down. Personally I'm quite proud of the ending, and I think it wraps up the story nicely, which is something I was not able to say about The Sisters Doo. So, there you go. Progress.

I really, really wanted to finish Mantles. I didn't think I ever would, but now it's done, and my heart feels happy. I don't know if I will write any more fanfiction as long as I live, but who knows? I do love to write.

Sorry to those of you who were reading The Brothers Don't. I've removed the story because it doesn't make any sense and I didn't have any plans with it, really. I was just trying to get myself writing every day so I could finish Mantles. Now that it's done, so am I.

Thank you all, Wonderfolk! You bring something special to my life I've never found anywhere else.

Arrivederci,
Ponky

What a note to go out on, eh folks?

It was really good. I'm glad you got to the end.

Congrats, Big P. Finishing things feels good. Finishing good things feels great.

Dangit PonKy! I wanted to loudly exclaim my sentiments of disappointment over the fact that Mantles is finished already. I haven't read the last chapter yet but I was certain you were going to do the ending in at least two chapters. But seeing just how dang happy you are about finishing it I just can't bitch about it but intead finds myself smiling along with you. Your personal story truly did get a happy ending, didn't it?
This is Ponky's real godbye to his audience then. I'm not sad, because I know you will check in with your thousands of friends here from time to time, won't you Ky?

Hap

Well, congratulations! Finishing a story is always a big deal. No matter how you finished it, and how well it was done, there would have been those who didn't like it. You can't please everyone. I'm glad that you like your ending.

As much as writing is for other people to read... it's mostly for you to write. Even if nobody reads it, or nobody likes it.

I haven't read it yet.

Good work gettin' it done, sir. Take 'er easy. Maybe we'll see ya around!

Congrats on finishing your story, Ponky! I can't wait until I get the chance to finish it.

Now that it's done, so am I.

I hope this doesn't mean you'll stop writing, but I'll understand if you do.

Now I really have no excuse to not get back to the story. Congratulations on finally completing it. It's no small feat, concluding a fanfic that you've been working on for so long and which takes so much time and effort. Whatever I think of the ending when I get to it, it's an achievement worth praising.

Can't believe it's finally done. Five years in the making, and it still feels kinda short. :applejackconfused:

If you're still here and interested, I have some more "critically speaking" thoughts:

I guess you planned to wrap up quickly from the beginning, but it wouldn't have felt so sudden with some more foreshadowing earlier, especially of things like Pinkie's alicorn project. That was a pretty important plot point to not mention until the last chapter. And since we hadn't heard Twilight's reasoning at all until the end, she came across as extra-irrational.

It wasn't a bad ending, but, well... I can't help feeling like I've seen it before....

No, I actually loved it. I do wish there had been more, though. It felt like it was just getting started. I would've loved another "season" with the Harmony League before they went for Twilight. Mare Do Well kept saying there was no reason not to go for Twilight immediately, but there wasn't much reason to, either. I don't remember-- was she planning that before she got news about Ponyville?

Still, if just getting it done was your goal all along these past few months, then I'm happy for you getting here. I'd be surprised with myself if I ever finished my big story.

So... what's next for Ponky?

Good for you, man! Mantles has been such a treat to read, and I'm so happy I was able to see it progress in real-time. Everyone else seems to have beaten me to the punch, but I hope that doesn't diminish my sincerest congratulations.
