Review #71 - White In The Snow, The Wrong Side of History, 7 x 13 = 28 DUH! · 3:49am Mar 9th, 2017

Well, unlike the last review, this one does NOT contain any M rated fics. Anyway, promotion:
*Beer and a Knife Fight 3: Beer Hard With a Vengeance - The third part of a trilogy by PresentPerfect that I have yet to read. But hey, it's new...

On a random side note, I love bbcodes. (For those of you who don't know, a bbcode is the [b ][ /b] for bold text, or [center ][ /center] for centered text).

As always, I will put down my recommendations, but I truly hope that you to make the choice on whether to read a fic or not yourself.

Rarity trots through the Frozen North.

Review
This one is a quite the mystery fic, but with the answer left up to the reader. There is also some adventure in this one, but not as much as there is mystery. Rarity in this one confuses me. Like, the author is actually pretty good at writing her like a less fashion-crazed Season 6 Rarity, but I don't really understand why she in the Frozen North. I have my suspicions, [spoier]Windigoes and she's looking for a way to stop them, but I don't know for sure. I'm betting this was a planned thing, but it also makes it seem like it needs a continuation. In conclusion, I will quote one of the commenters because they share my confusions:

However, I feel like there are a few little confusing questions, like why was Rarity alone in Frozen North? Who was the voice talking to her since it seems that the other pony came later?

This one's greatest weakness would have to be that it's too vague. I like that it's vague, and leaves readers with questions, but the level of vagueness is just a little high.

Recommendation: Intermediate. (Without either a continuation, or an edit to remove a little bit of vagueness, I cannot give anything higher then this).

After witnessing the collateral damage of a secret war that has been fought for generations, Twilight will finally discover the truth behind it. A truth that is far different than anything she could have imagined. Some enemies of Celestia are hulking abominations, others are mad deities, but a few are just persistent.

This one is... interesting. I mean, it has comedy, but said comedy was merged with a slice of life fic. It's a very odd combination. Anway, I want to talk about Luna. Luna is simply amazing with her "back in my day" jokes and attempts to recreate 'happy' memories, though this does get a little old by the time this fic is over. Celestia time! Celestia is really only there to banter with Luna, and to introduce the main reason for this story. Twilight I can actually see doing something like this, that is, complaining about not getting equal treatment from terrorists. The final scene of this story really kind of ruined it for me. It is entirely unnesesasary, and just bleh.

This one's greatest weakness then would be a lack of variety. The jokes are a bit old when you reach the end, and it could really have used a little more. Just not something like the final scene. That would be bad.

Recommendation: Worth Reading. (Despite the jokes getting a little old by the end, this is a pretty good fic the first time you read it).

As Twilight sets up for tonight's sleepover, Pinkie brought over exactly twenty-eight cookies for everypony at the sleepover. Pinkie claimed that the seven of them (including Spike) should have thirteen cookies each as an even amount. Pinkie’s logic doesn’t make any sense to Twilight and wants Pinkie to prove it to her if seven times thirteen really does equal to twenty-eight.

This one is definitely a comedy, though there is quite of bit of randomness in this one, too. Would any of you care if I copy part of PaulAsaran's review? Because he pretty much says it perfectly. Ima do it:

The story is what it says on the tin: Pinkie shows up to a sleepover with exactly 28 cupcakes and says that’ll give everypony and Spike thirteen cupcakes, and Twilight tries to make her prove it. This is apparently based on an Abbot and Costello skit, so after reading the story I went ahead and watched the referred-to video.

After which, I groaned.

sonicfan05 basically repeated the skit, word-for-word. This automatically dumps it down several notches in my level of appreciation. I also don’t feel like the author caught the humor quite right in the translation.

Yeah, yeah, yeah... don't copy other's reviews... but I would have ended up saying this anyway. Now, I did enjoy this quite a bit, despite the copying of the skit. So, if you have no intention of ever watching the video, then this is great. Read it.

But, as I must get this done eventually, this one's greatest weakness would be the copying of the skit.

Recommendation: Recommended if you never watch the video, otherwise, Not Recommended. (Because, well, it's the exact same thing as the video).

Oh, by the way, here is the Abbott and Costello vid:

That video is hilarious dude :pinkiehappy:
I can just imagine Pinkie doing this and Twilight being totally mindfucked!
