The Moon Rises · 1:55am Nov 13th, 2016

I give you what must be one of the best MLP animations that I have yet to see, and what must be my favorite. The song is wonderful, and was modified slightly from the original release to better fit the animation, but it is glorious nonetheless. The emotion, the power in it is so intoxicating. I would write a Nightmare Moon Rebellion story if it wasn't for the fact that everyone else had already done so!

Do you guys have a favorite MLP animation?

This, Children of the Night, Lullaby for a Princess, and many others, there's been lots of good animations coming out of this fandom since early on.

Lullaby is a god damn masterpiece. That fight scene with Celestia and Nightmare Moon was incredible.

Probably my favorite too, Lullaby is too full of Angslestia to be enjoyable for me, I find it very hard to believe that an immortal ruler doesn't understand the concept of personal accountability, as awesome as the animation is.

Also i liked that there's no "third party" being responsable for Nightmare Moon here. As cool as Nightmare Rarity looks the idea of Luna being a helpless victim only serves to cheapen her character.

Agreed. I enjoy it the best when Luna and Nightmare Moon are the same individuals, and Luna was herself responsible for turning into Nightmare. I don't shrug too much against other characters, such as Discord or Sombra being indirectly involved, making some sort of comment or remark of her place as the lesser Princess and planting the beginnings of strife between to the two. But in general, Luna is Nightmare Moon and not the result of a parasite or something like that.

I think they did a decent job with Nightmare Rarity, it's been a while since I've read the comic arcs for me to remember this correctly, but I always interpreted it as Rarity being infected, willingly, by the fragments of Nightmare Moon. So there is a parasite relationship there. In my headcanon, and in the Birthdayverse, a fragment of that power remains in Rarity. I have a couple of situations where Rarity uses that fragment to become Nightmare Rarity, but sadly all attempts to turn that into a story have ended with failure, or a story that goes no where.
