Ruminating on an idea, and a general status update · 8:57am Oct 1st, 2016
Three days ago, in the wee hours of the morning, I made a blog post JFF to celebrate the return of Apple Cider season in, at the very least, the American Upper Midwest.
Now I feel like maybe doing a more serious status update. Let's see how I do.
I haven't done a lot of blogging, and maybe I should do more. My blogs as of yet have been ideas that I haven't followed through on, a one-off thoughts on episodes piece, and a bunch of random crap last year that I have deleted and am still trying to forget .
As of right now, I still have two unfinished fics, "A Homeric Epic in Equestria" and "How I Remembered What Friendship Could Be." Both are simultaneously approaching an entire year without new chapters, but I hope to publish new chapters to both of them this month. Considering the length of the chapters, it's still far too little, too far dated. I want to start updating more frequently, but I don't have a great track record on commitments (Can't wait for "The Lydian Legacies" to come out! ).
I also still think the stories as they are need more polish, and am trying to seek guidance for them, one user at a time, currently via The Proofreader Group. If I have a positive experience getting someone's feedback and help, I definitely want to try submitting to Equestria Daily.
While I work on these projects, both somewhat ambitious, I have many more ideas for fics that I want to do in the future. One that has so tantalizingly crystallized in my mind is a fic that I have tentatively titled "Still Friends." It's a fic even more ambitious than the two I have up now, and I want to do it RIGHT. Right flow, right characterization, right writing, etc. I don't feel like I could accomplish everything I want to with "Still Friends" if I didn't enlist some help, and I'm attempting to do that right now, on the forums of Looking for Editors and Author Support. I have no idea what I'd be getting myself into if I got help and got started with "Still Friends," or if, god forbid, my other ideas started crystallizing and I felt the urge to get them out, ALL WHILE I HAVEN'T A SINGLE COMPLETED FANFIC IN THE HISTORY OF THE INTERNET .
Getting a proofreader for the stories I have out now would some way or another build myself as a writer: either I take their good advice and improve my fics and myself, or I get bad advice that I don't want to implement in my fics and get a slight confidence boost in the abilities I already have, though that's assuming I'm a good judge of comparative quality. If I actually got someone to help "Still Friends" along, I might focus my energies there, and my other fics might get definite hiatuses, so readers will at least KNOW for sure when I'm not working on them. As I'm working on them now, though; well, you get the idea. It may seem like hot air to announce YET ANOTHER future project via blogpost, but I'm much more sure of it than the other ideas I've had. If this was 2014, I'd post and hype even more ideas that weren't as detailed in my head.
So that's what I have to say to my seventeen followers, or at least the three that actually read this... from random chance by clicking my profile (JK, my little bronies ). This actually feels pretty good to get off my chest. Here's hoping I can exceed my former expectations.
