STARBOUND: An Update · 5:51pm Sep 19th, 2016
Okay, so I am nearly finished with the newest chapter. I had originally intended it to essentially go right into what is going to be next chapter, but I decided to use this chapter as a means to kind of nod to the now-released version of the game a lot more, as well as set up the last few chapters.
I expect it won't be any more than two weeks till it comes out, at the absolute latest. In all likelihood, I'm gonna get it done here in the next few days, but then I may just be underestimating the power of my own writer's block.
Now, with all that being said...
I am about 75% sure I want to write two sequels. One of them is less of a true sequel and more of a midquel, though with plenty of plot advancement all the same, and the second one is literally the game itself. But here's why it's not 100%.
1) It has taken me three friggin' years to write this thing, and I'm still not finished. I'm just not as invested in this story as I am in Apprentice or Worlds. Hell, even Forces of Darkness is feeling the pain here, and it's literally a single 3k-word chapter long. I don't want to spend another seven years writing two things. That's 10% of my life spent making very little advancement and I don't want to inflict that on all of you guys.
2) While the full sequel can easily center around Twilight, the second one I can only see centering around Jack. And one thing I've learned on this site is that not too many people are fans of stories that have ponies in them, but they feature incredibly little. I was thinking about possibly tweaking it so that Twilight is the protagonist, but it requires someone human to take up 99% of the spotlight, with almost no mention of personal miniature equines, so I would have to come up with some stupid gimmick just for Twilight just for this one story and it has no bearing from there, making it a big-lipped alligator moment that never comes back into play.
3) Honestly? It's getting harder for me to write at all. Work is taking up more of my free time, writing has become a chore if it's the wrong story at the wrong time, and in general, I think after I finish all my stories/rewrites, I'm going to take a few months off. All of them will end in such a way to give their stories a true, final ending (just in case I decide "That's it! Rytex is out!"), but can still be expanded upon should I want to.
