What happens when you change one little detail to a character dynamic?
Sometimes its minor, just a small detail changed, but they still remain the same characters. Sometimes its major, having consequences reaching beyond just the characters and how they interact. Sometimes even just that one change casts everything in a different light.
When I first came up with the idea of Please Forgive Me, an alternate universe where only one thing was changed from the main canon, Rainbow Dash being Scootaloo's mother, I had no idea where I was going to go with it. The character dynamic between these two Ponies is interesting, they don't need a blood relationship to care for each other, they're a family in their own way.
But what would it change if they where Mother and Daughter? Would that bond be broken or would something strengthen it?
I knew going into it that I needed something to happen, so with prompt and concept in hand, I set out to write a plausible version of the story.
When it came time to create an obstacle, a threat that would have to be overcome so the two could reconcile, I was listening to the audiobooks for the Fate of the Jedi series, and I remembered Abeloth.
So, the creature was born, and from there, the universe took on a new light.
