    An unconnected scenelet

The moon had risen over Lyra and Bon Bon’s day trip to Canterlot. They had spent the morning and afternoon visiting Lyra’s parents (and Bon Bon’s in-laws) for lunch and conversation. When evening rolled around, they left to meet up with Lyra’s foalhood friends at a downtown tavern to celebrate the bonus that Lemon Hearts had received for expertly organizing the state dinner that helped

    Mutually Assured Discussion

Mid-mornings were for dropping off candy at Sugarcube Corner. The breakfast crowd was gone, so it gave Bon Bon a chance to briefly chat with the Cakes during a time that they weren’t overwhelmed by an onslaught of orders. The atmosphere probably would have been even quieter and more relaxed if she made her deliveries before the breakfast crowd arrived, but there was no way she was waking up that

I can too write a story in less than two months

Look out – I had a story inspiration for a contest in sufficient time to actually write the story before the contest's deadline!

Tell LyraBon About It (a supplementary one-scene story)

(there will be spoilers after the break)

Hello to everybody who read and enjoyed One Wavelength of the Rainbow! Your views and likes were much appreciated, and I too mourn the decrease in activity on Fimfiction that allowed one of my stories to make it into the featured box.

Deleted text from my most recent story

This was too much of a digression to include in One Wavelength of the Rainbow, but I didn't want to throw it out entirely. I'm sure other stories have addressed this subject more thoroughly and satisfyingly than the few paragraphs I've written here, but I do find it to be an interesting jumping-off point to think about.

New story! · 5:49pm Jul 11th, 2016

(wipes brow)

I wrote a new story. Eight chapters, over 35,000 words. The entire thing will be published by the end of the week. How do y’all do it? That was a lot of work.

I know, I know… the whole “Lyra loves humans” thing has been done a bajillion times. And “differences between Equestria and the human world” has been done even more times than that. But this is a story I wanted to tell, the way I wanted to see it done. To be honest, I haven’t really read any of the “ponies in the human world” or “humans in Equestria” stories. If there wind up being any similarities, I swear that they’re purely coincidental.

The only partial inspiration I took was from this video:

Of course Lyra would do that.

Actually, I didn’t really pay much attention to Lyra and Bon Bon until “Slice of Life” aired. But now that it has, we have two characters that I’d like to see get more screen time, to learn more about them… and I suspect that that’s not going to happen, given the subtext present in their “Slice of Life” scenes.

(I know some people say, “But they only say ‘best friends!’ You’re reading into things that aren’t there!” I’m saying that based on the way those two act, the episode’s use of “best friends” is analogous to when your family says the guy accompanying your brother to Thanksgiving dinner is his “roommate.” Everybody knows what it really means, but you say that because it’s easier than watching grandpa throw a fit and ruin everything. It’s the same reason none of the characters referred to the gray pegasus by name in “Slice of Life” – we all saw what happened the last time they did that.)

So I wanted to write a story that would adhere to what Lyra and Bon Bon’s personalities would likely be if they were allowed to continue to develop as characters on the actual show. And then I threw in the fan-created human obsession for Lyra, because that’s fun. And it served well as a plot device.

Enjoy!
