    An unconnected scenelet

The moon had risen over Lyra and Bon Bon’s day trip to Canterlot. They had spent the morning and afternoon visiting Lyra’s parents (and Bon Bon’s in-laws) for lunch and conversation. When evening rolled around, they left to meet up with Lyra’s foalhood friends at a downtown tavern to celebrate the bonus that Lemon Hearts had received for expertly organizing the state dinner that helped

Mid-mornings were for dropping off candy at Sugarcube Corner. The breakfast crowd was gone, so it gave Bon Bon a chance to briefly chat with the Cakes during a time that they weren’t overwhelmed by an onslaught of orders. I can too write a story in less than two months

Look out – I had a story inspiration for a contest in sufficient time to actually write the story before the contest's deadline!

Tell LyraBon About It (a supplementary one-scene story)

(there will be spoilers after the break)

Hello to everybody who read and enjoyed One Wavelength of the Rainbow! Your views and likes were much appreciated, and I too mourn the decrease in activity on Fimfiction that allowed one of my stories to make it into the featured box.

Deleted text from my most recent story

This was too much of a digression to include in One Wavelength of the Rainbow, but I didn't want to throw it out entirely. I'm sure other stories have addressed this subject more thoroughly and satisfyingly than the few paragraphs I've written here, but I do find it to be an interesting jumping-off point to think about.

Mid-mornings were for dropping off candy at Sugarcube Corner. The breakfast crowd was gone, so it gave Bon Bon a chance to briefly chat with the Cakes during a time that they weren’t overwhelmed by an onslaught of orders. The atmosphere probably would have been even quieter and more relaxed if she made her deliveries before the breakfast crowd arrived, but there was no way she was waking up that early.

As happened more often than not, Lyra accompanied her. On the way to the bakery, she wore the saddlebags that contained the candy; on the way back, the saddlebags contained bits. Presently, they were filled with bits. The couple had just said good-bye to the Cakes and were on their way back home.

As was their custom, they walked through the marketplace. Lyra’s friend Noteworthy saw them and engaged them in light conversation. As they walked and talked with the stallion, they approached the stall of their friend Golden Harvest. Lyra and Bon Bon didn’t need any carrots that day, but they still stopped to chat. It was Friday, but the crowd was light and no one was making any sales at the moment, so Applejack took part in the conversation from the adjacent cart and Berry Punch took a break to wander over and also join in.

“Anypony got any big plans for the weekend?” Golden Harvest asked the group.

“Does sitting at home by myself count as big plans?” Noteworthy joked.

“The usual chores,” Applejack said. “Plus the rope’s frayin’ on one of the barn pulleys, so we gotta replace that.”

“Open-mic night at the bar,” Berry Punch said. She looked to Golden Harvest for her answer.

“I’m waiting to get ideas from all of you,” she said. “Bon Bon, Lyra?”

“We haven’t made any official plans,” Bon Bon said. “Although an escape room finally opened up here this week. I want to see if it’s as good as the ones we’ve done in Canterlot.”

“Oh, really?” Lyra said, a little surprised. “Because this is the opening weekend for Everything Goes. I was hoping we could go see that.”

“You were?”

“Yeah.”

“And… you wouldn’t rather do the escape room instead?”

“Not over Everything Goes. I mean, the escape room will still be there next weekend.”

“So will Everything Goes. Actually, it’ll probably be better because everypony will be more comfortable doing the show by then.”

“Funny – I was going to point out that if we waited next week for the escape room, it would give them the chance to fix any parts that weren’t working quite right.”

Berry Punch, Golden Harvest, and Noteworthy all shared a look. Even Applejack raised her eyebrows a little.

“You guys,” Berry Punch said to the others, her voice only slightly quieter. “Are you seeing this, too?”

“I never thought I’d see the day,” Golden Harvest confirmed.

“I’m a little scared,” Noteworthy said.

Lyra and Bon Bon could easily overhear, but they ignored the comments.

“Coin?” Bon Bon asked.

“Coin,” Lyra agreed.

She levitated a bit out of her saddlebag and up between the two of them. Abruptly, the coin left her aura as it flew upward with a considerable amount of spin on it. Both pairs of eyes followed it up, then down as it landed on the ground.

Lyra let out a short groan. “Fine. Escape room. But we’re seeing Everything Goes next week.”

“Agreed.”

Lyra picked the coin up in her magic and put it back in her saddlebag. The two turned to look at the four ponies who were silently staring at them.

“What?” Bon Bon said. “It’s not like this is the first time we couldn’t come to an agreement on something.”

They were met with continued stares. Finally, Berry Punch spoke for the group: “Really?”

Lyra said, “When we know we’re not going to change each other’s mind and it’s something minor like that, we flip a coin. That’s the fairest way to decide, right?”

“Okay,” Golden Harvest said, “but didn’t you kind of skip a step there?”

Lyra and Bon Bon looked at each other to see if the other knew what she was talking about.

“…Heads or tails?” Golden Harvest clarified. Noteworthy nodded.

“Oh, that,” Lyra said with a smile. “I’m always tails and Bon Bon’s always heads. ’Cause she’s the brains of our relationship.”

“And Lyra ha—” Bon Bon said before abruptly clamping her mouth shut.

After a couple seconds of silence, Lyra said, “No, go on, say it. I like to hear you say it.”

As her cheeks turned red, Bon Bon said, “And Lyra has a cute backside.”

Lyra beamed.

Berry Punch rolled her eyes and shook her head. “You two.”

Coming later this week: a new one-chapter story starring Lyra and Bon Bon that, although technically not part of the series I've written about them, is fully compatible with it.

(The above is not an excerpt from said story. That was just a story-less scene I wrote a while back when inspiration struck.)

These two are criminally cute. Seriously, pretty sire this violates one or two statutes.

Hahahaha adorbs! That ending was perfection.
