Early New Year's resolutions, and Old Year's conclusions

Well, another year's come and gone. How did the resolutions go? Half and half in my case. Managed to partially accomplish what I set out to do, moving from wondering how to do things to figuring out what to do. I believe I've successfully identified the habits that are hampering or even harmful to me, so that's progress.

    Resolutions for the new year?

Summer update 2: What's Sticking to the Wall?

    Quick update on future plans.

Still working on the original stuff, I think I'm down to the last rewrite of what I wanted to do, only question is what to change in terms of details. Art's had some progress, but work responsibilities and sweet, sweet sleeping problems have caused disruptions.

    Summer update: what next?

Honestly? Not sure. I never publish anything that's not complete, so I'm not breaking any promises there. Thing is, I haven't started on anything new yet, and hadn't lined anything up before the previous one.

Progress report on the fics. · 7:35pm Jan 28th, 2016

Hey, all. Just a quick heads-up for now, for those anticipating new works.

Trip Down Memory Lane

Slightly stuck in a few places, there are a few scenes and lines of dialogue that I'm not entirely sure of. It's 24 pages long at the time of writing, but progress on that is slow. No real idea on when it'll be done, at the earliest it'll be two weeks from now. I can tell you, if you didn't catch it before, that it'll be more like Empathy and Necro-Semantics. So not that good, but probably a feature if I half-ass some cover art for it.

Ponyville's First Warrior Meet (Flight Camp Sequel)

Getting nice progress on the dialogue and such, mostly stuck on figuring out similar but distinct fighting styles for Rumble, Silver Spoon, and the Kid in Alicorn Armour. And Whimper. Can't forget to put Whimper on that list. Yeah, the issue in emulating Naruto, as it turns out, is that when you go for a purely written medium, the commentary on the fighting has more substance to it than the actual fighting. There's also one minor issue I hadn't planned on for Spike's fight with Whimper. I can't decide if it should be a draw or not. One of the two fights again shortly afterwards, you see, so they need to be tired, but there needs to be an actual outcome to the fight, too. If one wins, then it makes that character seem unbalanced, which is kind of a big deal in this story.

I do have the biggest 'scene' done, though, well, one of them. It's not the climax of the story, but it is a scene I've had in my head since shortly after the sequel's inception, and as such it's a huge relief to get it out there. You're gonna love it. That's a promise. And hate me for it. That's a warning.

The story is getting quite close to being a finished first draft, though. Finding the time for it is going to be a bit iffy, maybe. It'll be late February at the earliest. And it's a multiparter, obviously.

The Rumble 'Episodes'

So, CMC getting to know Rumble while Scootaloo is struggling to learn how to fly. Let's hope it doesn't end up being repetitive compared to every other Scootaloo and/or Rumble story I've written.

Got the first chapter of the first episode done, actually, of Apple Bloom hearing about Rumble and getting a not-so-flattering picture of him while the other two girls go to Featherweight to see if Namby Pamby wrote anything about the tornado training. First chapter was a breeze, next problem is coming up with good scene breaks so the girls at the newspaper actually get something relevant. The ending to the first episode was tricky, but it's sketched out well enough. So first episode is looking good, the other two need to be outlined, still.

Rainbow Dash and the Shameless Self-Insert.

Boy, am I glad I only publish when things are finished. This thing blew up in my face, so to speak. It's either going to have to be cut down immensely, back to a oneshot, like the original concept, or it's going to involve a lot of OC's who are essentially cartoons of Rainbow Dash' friends. It's still only a concept, this one.

Vinyl Scratch' Worst Hangover

Inspired by comments on the Octavia/CMC sleepover fic, and the reason that story is tagged for this blog. Yes, there is now a concept for a sequel. And it is this:

Vinyl would never break a promise to her little niece, Scootaloo. Even when that promise involves some silly Sisterhooves Social. If only she'd remembered when the Social was, and not gone to an elephant party the night before. Elephants never forget, you see, no matter how drunk they get. And they expect you to drink with them.

Now Vinyl has to compete with the other sister figures, and she'll have to do so with a hangover that would make a pachyderm want to stay in bed. But hey, at least it's a friendly competition, right?

Twilight Sparkle would never break a promise to her number one assistant, Spike. Even when that promise involves some silly Sisterhooves Social. If only she'd remembered when the Social was, and not buried herself in books the night before. But hey, it's still just a friendly competition, right?

If only Spike and Scootaloo weren't competing for a higher spot on the 'orphan pecking order'.

So, yeah. Spike and Scootaloo at a Sisterhooves Social. Spike is there to have some family time, because his parents are absent (obviously), Scootaloo is there because she wants to get Rainbow Dash' attention (this would be before Season 3, and so before any adult on the show addressed Scootaloo by name). Vinyl Scratch has to compete with Twilight Sparkle, neither of them is particularly fit for the task, physically.

Haven't decided on what sort of comedy I'll go for, or what kind of resolution for Spike, but the Scootaloo side of it is pretty much set, and it does indeed involve Rainbow Dash, just not the way you might think. At the very least, there will be Scootaloo singing off key, harshly, and her aunt singing even worse to cover it up. Other than that, I might try a 'sobbier than thou' schtick between Spike and Scoots, but it's been done before, so... it's on the list, it'll get fleshed out soon, earliest projection is summer, ish.

New Year's Resolutions.

Not fic-related, this, but just a heads-up. You may recall I had a list of goals set up at the start of the year. Well... I think I got one. Close enough, at least. Which one, you ask? Well, let's just say that if I were to show the result, I'd risk getting a love letter from some lovely girls. Lawyer girls.

I now have a Synfig pony, with the proper mechanics to emulate Flash animation. The bidding will begin at one hundred million dollars :rainbowwild:

It's not perfect, but it's close enough to only need additional pieces, not need to be broken down and built up repeatedly. So that should make the cover art thing a little easier to do in the future, at least.

And on a semi-related note: I'm tinkering with the pieces now, probably going to try and make some art of Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon in ballet getups, as a bit of fanart for Apple Bloom On. So, Telaros, watch out for that.
