Site Post » Happy Hearth's Warming from the Royal Canterlot Library! · 9:02pm Dec 25th, 2015
It's been a busy two years of reading, evaluating, and spotlighting stories for our weekly author interviews. With Christmas falling on a Friday this December, we at the Royal Canterlot Library are taking our first day off. Rest assured, though, we'll be back next week to feature another excellent piece of pony fanfiction.
In the meantime, now is a good time to take advantage of a suggestion from RCL curator Chris, and give one of your favorite authors the gift of a thank-you for how their story made a difference to you. If you'd like a starting point, browse our list of previous features, with 100+ top-notch stories. Did one of them move you? Help you come to a realization? Teach you the bon mot that landed you that sweet job at the trivia factory? Let the author know! There's no greater compliment than to hear you've made a difference.
For readers and authors alike, happy holidays to you all.
As one of Seattle's Angels, I approve this message. Go tell an author why they're cool.

Merry Christmas in three languages!

(Maligayang Pasko)
Woohoo!

Nope, I just know a few dozen words. I can get by in the island pidgin, but I haven't used it for decades.

Ĝojan Kristnaskon! Gëzuar Krishtlindjet! sere jakexmix anānte lā; .i gleki krirmsa
. . . or however you want to say it.
3643131 I am surprised there are Philippine dialects and languages in that link.

What'd you expect? It's omniglot.com. They've got a lot of the world's languages and writing systems.

"Mele Kalikimaka" is also a classic Christmas song, made famous by Bing Crosby. That's how I know the phrase, anyway! :)
If we're doing the language thing, Fijn Kerstfeest, everybody!

Spreekt u Nederlands?
3646013 I don't think it's very polite to talk in a different language in a public comment section, but it's nice to know I have a fellow Dutchman (or at least speaker) in my midst.
3646534
I thought YOU were the Dutchman. My apologies.
Besides, it's perfectly acceptable to carry on in a different language here on Fimfiction. Here's one such example, in Albanian.
3646626 Oh I am Dutch, I just have two French cousins and it always really irritates me when they speak to each other in French when other people are there.

Here's a funny story:
So George Orwell went to stay in France one time. He came fully equipped to speak French there. . . but it turned out the household language where he stayed was Esperanto. Needless to say, he was caught off-guard.
He got his revenge by creating Newspeak in 1984.
3646783 I'm assuming you did a little Esperanto victory dance when you first heard that story.

As one of Seattle's Angels, I fully condone bandwagoning onto an RCL post, because we are quite lazy. Least, I am.

"Open up your heart and let the grimdark coltclop shipfic in!"
"We'll meet in Pinkie's kitchen and dance in Twilight's skin!"
"And Luna can be our re-gu-lar Sa-tur-day night thing--"
We'll decorate a Timberwolf, and gather 'round and sing...
Oh! Let's have a Sweaty Manchild Chrstmas this year...
"La-la-la, la-la, ha haaaaaaa!"
