Chris has a pretty good idea about what you can do for people on this site as a form of a little Christmas gift. It's explained really well in this blog, but to give you the gist of it, essentially the idea is to tell people whose stories have deeply affected you on this site via comment of PM just how much the story actually means to you. I think this is a wonderful idea, because a little bit of positive reinforcement never hurt anyone, and really does go a long way, particularly if that person is having a bit of a hard time at the moment. Even though the fanfiction environment is a bit different than the original fiction environment, I know a lot of people have been deeply affected by fanfics and the authors of those extra special ones deserve to know about it. And it's the perfect gift—it's heartfelt, genuine, and it costs you nothing but the meager time it takes to type out your appreciations.
So please, consider doing this; it's a fucking fantastic idea, and I know that I for one will be partaking in it.
