Strike two...ugh... · 8:34pm Aug 14th, 2012
Well, this is fantastic. I just got my second rejection email from EQD. After spending hours and hours revising all the spelling and grammar mistakes the last pre-reader and other reviewers pointed out, what I got back was a couple notes on present/past tense and use of ellipses. Oh, and this little ditty:
Honestly, I can see that you've done a good job of staying faithful to the Pawn Stars source material, but I think this story's charm is too reliant on familiarity with that show. I also think a lot of the appeal of the show itself is due to the historical context of a lot of the items, and that doesn't translate very well to a fictional world; nothing you make up can impact the audience as much as a relic of a culture they're already familiar with. I'm sorry, but I don't think we'll be able to post your fic. This is your second strike of three, if you decide that you can improve it enough to appeal to a wider audience.
Too reliant in the show? Doesn't every crossover rely just a little on the sure material? I mean, would Fo:E be as well-received as it is now if it didn't rely on the Fallout theme? I know nothing of Fallout and yet the series interests me (the only reason I'm not reading it now is I'm always pressed for time). And as for the appeal of the show, I think people watch it for historical content as well as the characters. I've done quite a bit of rewriting to try and make my characters as dynamic as the Harrisons on the show. The relics are just objects I bring in to help tell my story.
Does anyone know of any other MLP sites/forums where I can share my story? Apparently EQD isn't open to publishing anything but the dozens of dark/sad stories and thousands of shipfics I see all over the site.
You know If some once can recomend you on Tv tropes than more people should come see it.
There is a site called Fanfiction.net. They aren't as regulated as this site is but they still do good work. Try it there.
