The Day of the Dead Anthology

The Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) is a now-famous tradition from ancient times that has been a huge part of Mexican Culture through the centuries. Like so many things in Mexico, it's influenced strongly by certain aspects of the Aztec people.

It has shaped the way those of us with that heritage look at life and death in many ways, and most importantly on the remembrance of, and honoring the deceased. We traditionally decorate little altars dedicated to the memories of those that passed away… but it's not a somber occasion.

PSA: Using AIs to Write and Publish Stories in Fimfiction

Hello everyone, this is a PSA (Public Service Announcement, for those of ESL) to put to rest consistent questions about using AI to 'write' stories and publish them here. This is not intended as a poll or a request for feedback. It is exclusively a clarification on an already-existing rule.

People ask: "Can I, oh great and powerful D, post a story or chapter that I got ChatGPT to write for me?!"

And the answer, my friend, is... No.

Absolutely not. Not in a thousand years!

    Because you didn't write it.

It is not your creation. You are NOT the author. In fact, you are the opposite.

There seems to be some confusion when interpreting the following rule:

    Don’t Post (Content)

    Phishing Awareness

Have you ever found yourself in a situation like this?

And then you magically find yourself in a suspiciously familiar site, except that you're not logged in, and it requires you to do so?

Well. Don't log in. This is a scam, and a cheap one at that.

There've been recent attempts to obtain Fimfiction users’ personal data, like passwords and/or emails through links like the one I'm making fun of above. And a distressing amount of people don't seem to know what phishing attempts are.

If you HAVE entered a site like this and put in your data, make sure to follow these basic steps at least.

    Reunions: A Swapped Roles Contest!

Okay guys here's something fun presented by Nitro Indigo.

Presented by me, I guess, but I digress.

Last year, I (Nitro Indigo) noticed that there was a surprising lack of roleswap fanfics on this site. To fix that, I decided to run a roleswap contest over the summer themed around secrets. While it didn’t get many entries, it nevertheless attracted the attention of some big authors and was the origin of two of my favourite fics. Overall, I think it was a success, so I’ve decided to run another one!

    Minor Rules and Reporting Update

Hope everyone is enjoying the new year.

Some small changes have been made to our rules as well as to the reporting process.

    Rules

"No attacks directed at individuals or groups due to race, gender, gender identity, religion or sexual identity."

This better clarifies our previously ill-defined hate speech rule and includes groups as well as individual attacks.

"No celebration, glorification or encouragement of real life criminal activity."

This includes past, present and potential future crimes.

    Jinglemas 2019

There's truly no time like the holidays. What's better than copious amounts of food, quality time with family and friends, hearing the sweet sound of Trans-Siberian Orchestra on repeat, and unmanagble financial stress from our capitalist overlords?

    Gift exchanges of course!

Site Post » How would you feel if the show ended on this? · 3:00pm Nov 29th, 2015

Would this have been a good episode to end FiM on for good? I feel like it would have been. As an episode I liked how Starlight Glimmer's origin story and the main 6's origin stories complimented each other and I feel like it would have closed out on everything nicely.

i still want more background knowledge on the equestria-human world relationship

*cough* look at the Doctor and Rose *cough*

Yes and no.

There are still more stories to tell, I feel, but yeah, they've really gone all out with the idea that friendships - particularly those of the Mane Six - are crucial to Equestria's survival.

Yeah, I think it would have been a perfectly acceptable ending, especially with the CMC's having gained their marks earlier this season. (As sun_tzu said on RPG.net, Crusaders of the Lost Mark was, after a fashion, the capstone of the series.

I don't think the show will end until hasbro no longer sees profit in the show.

P.S. I'm sure I speak for many of us when I say we'd be quite devastated if the show ended here

A good season finale should always do this. Leave no loose ends for fans to fret over during the hiatus.
For other shows, it slightly lessens the hurt if the next season gets canceled.

aCB

Now that you mention it, I wouldn't be surprised if the writers had the possibility of the show's end in mind when they wrote this. MLP wasn't renewed until after they started producing this season, and that ending shot is very much like a curtain call.

Tell you the truth, if season six wasn't announced, and the 2017 feature length movie. I would have been very happy to end with this episode. It just wraps up a season full of new ideas, faces, and drama--definitely drama--so nicely (and they didn't screw Spike for once, YAY!). Sorry, my inner fanboy came out.

Yeah, this was a good ending episode, but it'd still leave people unsatisfied, wanting more episodes.

Personally, I would find this a terrible episode to end on. All it would leave me with is the gut feeling that Starlight reverts back to her old self and successfully ends all life in Equestria. Seriously, I'm all for forgiveness, but someone whose caused multiple apocalypses should at least be punished for it!

Good thing it is not the end of the show, just the season. I don't want to see the show end for a long time, (but that would be a good ending)

3577873 And how Bulk is ogling Flutters :rainbowlaugh:

I wouldn't say it was a good episode for the show to end, but it was a good episode to show that maybe it should end. Between a lackluster season, a lackluster finale that ended absolutely terribly and the tendency to use "friendship" as a cop-out (as the finale itself shows well), I can't say I have much faith in it anymore.

There are a few things I'd like to see from the show which stop this being the perfect ending, I really want to see twilight develop more into an alicorn before the show ends, Trixies reformation which I assume is only a matter of time and an appearance of Shinning and Cadences foal.

Would kinda seem like a mute ending. For one thing season 5 had the type of foreshadowing glow, like season 4 and the box, but what did it lead to 4 seperate places to go and fix problems. Nothing wrong with it, I'm just thinking the tree of harmony, the castle, and the map have a secret inside.

P.S I'd hate to see this as the end because we don't get to see Cadence and Shining's baby and the things to follow. (But the facfictions could satisfy that.)

:pinkiesad2: but I no want the show to end. It's too awesome for it to end.

I would have been extremely pissed off if they ended like this. This was one of the worst two-parters. Starlight barely even got a slap on the wrist for ENSLAVING an entire village, forcefully taking their cutie marks, ruining a very close friendship, and dooming her entire fucking country.

"Oh, but she had a bad past!"

Actually, she didn't. Sure, she lost a friend, but for God's sake GET OVER YOURSELF. I bet she's the goddamn MILLIONTH person to have that happen to her! I mean, I've had friends who are even WORSE (check out my blog post on this episode for more detail), and I'm still a perfectly happy, and well-functioning human being. When she says, "He moved on and I didn't" that made me facepalm. Get over yourself and move on, you petty bitch.

Also, this season finale just brings up way too many questions [where were Celestia, Luna, Discord, and Cadence during all this; what happened to Cadence in the other timelines; how exactly did Nightmare defeat Celestia, and how was she defeated in the timelines without her (we clearly saw Luna during the Discord future); why was everything functioning for years in Nightmare's future, when eternal night should have brought upon years of famine and drought as well; WHY DID THE MANE 6 HAVE THEIR NORMAL CUTIE MARKS; where was the future Twilight during all this; etc.).

EDIT: I feel like this plot should have been the movie coming out next year (or was it 2017?). This almost felt rushed, and they really needed more time to fully explain what exactly was going on.

Well, the season finale felt more like a series finale for me. So I wouldn't mind.

It should end in flames.

No, of course not. It's not 'five seasons and a movie', now is it?

3577902
So, im not the only one that thought that the reasons for starlight to be a villain it's the equivalent of, '' I stepped over a lego, so im going to burn the universe to make sure that no one uses lego, and no one can make them'' ?

Hell no. The only appropriate way to end this series is having them face off against the god of Equestria in a glorious anime-style confrontation with the most epic soundtrack playing.

If the show ended now, i'd be totally fine with it. The episode was funny, the time travel was all a big bootstrap paradox, and all the possible presents were very interesting. I loved this episode and if they ended the show with those episodes, i'd be totally okay with it. Going out with a crazy plot is my favorite way to end something.

3577902
Yeah Starlight getting no punishment whatsoever was a lot of horseshit, but aside from the end I liked the season finale. But what exactly is the lesson in these episodes? That "I'm sorry" fixes everything? Well it fixes somethings, but not nearly causing the end of the world multiple times, and especially for such a stupid reason. Writers crapped the bed there.

I would feel ill.
Trixie is omitted, Sunset is omitted.
Instead we get new Super Unicorn Deus Ex Machina God Child Glimmer sitting center stage, like she is the new main character.
Able to manipulate Cutie Marks, which was supposed to be impossible.
Able to time travel without restrictions, which was supposed to be impossible.
Able to get away with heinous crimes against entire communities, then the entirety of the planet...
And got a bloody job offer instead of punishment.

Pretty sure enslaving minds, bodies and souls... and later breaking time, thus causing the apocalypse, would warrant some kind of legitimate punishment.
Just because it got fixed doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Nightmare Moon did less and she got a spot at Club Lunar Maximus.

Nah, but seriously. I think they can still make one more season, maybe two, before they're entirely out of ideas. Besides, they did set up a lot this season. Between Shining and Cadence having a baby, Starlight Glimmer joining the main cast (or at least becoming a recurring character), and probably a ton of other things I'm forgetting, they still have a lot of potential plotlines to do.

ZAKARI #27 · Nov 29th, 2015 · · 32 ·

I'll take any ending for this series. Just so long as something puts it out of its misery and the shambling corpse that is MLP is no longer tainted and corrupted by Meghan McHarthy and her inept, borderline incompetent writing staff.

EDIT: Wow, look at those downvotes pour in. Go on, people, show me just how many of you actually like sucking Hasbro's forced, horribly contrived, poorly written dick.

3577882 I'd disagree on the screwing Spike comment, specifically with the dumbass decision to violate the rule of threes by making him succumb to the dragonsneeze four times. It was funny the first time, amusing the second time, tired the third time, and angering the fourth time. They really didn't need to do that.

Honestly I wouldn't mind if this were the last season and episode. Granted, I said the same thing after I watched the S3 and S4 finales. But S5 really felt like a checklist of everything the fans wanted to see: CMC getting their cutie marks, world-building, the background ponies getting their own episode, Big Mac sharing a focus episode, etc. The series feels as close to being complete as it's ever going to get, and I feel that it should end on a high note before it goes downhill like so many other shows.

3577902 Not everyone has the same reaction to everything. Some people are far more emotional and unstable than others and need someone there to help them get through the dark moments in your life. I'm very much similar and I'm glad I have a sister and this fandom or else I don't know what would have happened. Starlight didn't have anyone and that was just the first step on the road to her damnation. We didn't see the bullying and how she came across such power. It's rather implied and I don't see why this is 'oh so terrible'. I thought it was quite believable.

As well, what was the motivations of the other villains?
Tirek: Power
Sombra: Power
Discord: fun
Sunset Shimmer: power
Flim Flam: money
Diamond Dogs: gems

The list goes on. This isn't to say they are bad characters for it, as I enjoyed them all, it's just that not everything needs to be so simple. Not everyone has a grimdark massive event. It's the little things in life that can cause the biggest problems. Which was the entire point of this episode.

I'd be disappointed if this was the ending of MLP. Yes, it did feel very final but there were no tied ends that would have closed the story. If anything, they just opened it more with new possibilities. Not even to mention that Starlight's redemption in the last song was incredibly glossed over and happy, I doubt she's forgiven that easily. Pony isn't that rushed.

I want to see a proper ending where the mane six all achieve their destinies, and the show is full and complete. Hoping they can literally close the book that they opened in the series premiere.

Wanting MOAR! Because Twilight mentioned I forget how many staff when she was talking about the staff Starlight had back in the Season 5 premere. That leaves a while arch that could be explored and maybe have a past or new villain seeking to find them (like Grogar, Chrysalis) plus at least one reference to the Equestria Girls movies and perhaps a comics arch like the Reflections arch adapted into it.

vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/b/b5/Opening_Book_S01E01.png/revision/latest?cb=20121230234244
It really should end with this with Twilight narrating it to her students. But that's just me.

3577884 Yes, she technically caused multiple apocalypses, but so did Twilight. Twilight accidentally encased Rainbow Dash in crystal once, Rainbow and the bullies decided to stop racing when they saw a battle which Twilight started, and tried and failed once to race Rainbow as a filly. That's three of the seven that are directly Twilight's fault.

Here's the thing, though: only Starlight and Twilight knew that had happened. Everypony else just saw a big flash of light at the castle and had no idea anything had changed because historically nothing did.

Moral of the story:
Someone touched your easy bake oven.
Now you must bring about the collapse of our sun to exact revenge.
End Result?: A job offer and socialization with the surviving victims corpses whilst running down the street yelling "Im ready! Promotion!"

You've done it again writing team.
Bravo.
I still didn't see any Back to the Future references.

Someone already said it, but the best way to end the series is to have the book. (the one with the golden pony on it) from the first episode close. Perhaps with Twi reading to her students, or Celestia narrating it to other young ponies.

If it was the last episode ever, I'd be a bit disappointed. It was a good story, but it felt a bit padded at times. Though I can see how it could end there. It would make sense, with Twilight having come full circle from student to teacher, though not at Celestia's level. Perhaps they had it as a back-up in the event Hasbro chose not to renew for another season.

But no, there are still many more stories to tell. I would rather MLP end before it suffers the fate of other great TV shows that run too long. For the moment though, there is plenty to explore; the map has been updated, we now have time travel as a regular episode mechanic. I say onward to new canon. MLP will end one day, but not just yet. :rainbowdetermined2:

The funny thing is, I went back and watched the two-part ending this morning and I actually liked it better the second time around. I think it is one of those episodes that grows on you over time. It has serious plot holes, I'm not going to lie. But it does at the very least introduce some very cool concepts, like the idea of a full out war, time travel, and other neat things they could potentially bring into future seasons.

i at least want one of my ships to be confirmed before the show ends

For me personally, I would not be entirely satisfied. Like many other people have mentioned, there are many huge plot points and foreshadows that were brought up in the season that should be touched on before the series itself ends.

As for the scene itself, I think a scene like this at the very end, with many of the characters smiling and waving to the audience would be a nice farewell gift, but I don’t think it should happen just yet. There is still a lot about Equestria that could be touched on before it ends.

3577902 Thank you so much for saying this. It's nearly impossible to get time stories right because it just leaves too many paradoxes and a whole bunch of other confusing shit (Rick and Morty's first episode of the second season basically satirizes time stories being confusing as all hell)

And Starlight was at her absolute worst in this episode. Her motivation sucked, her plan sucked, her reformation and acceptance into the group so quickly with no skepticism or punishment was god-awful. You can't have her as such a great villain in the premiere, but a really bad one in the finale. Poor Starlight is not a victim of a friend leaving her. She's a victim of shit writing.:ajbemused:

I want more to be honest, it leaves so much unanswered but It was a decent season finale. Just need more ponies.

Why they are looking at me?

WHY THEY ARE LOOKING AT ME!?

This season is only for bunch of appeals and requests that the fans wanted, and it was carried out excellently. But to be the ending is merely impossible, not everypony had their goals accomplished, AJ still hasn't got much of a character development, nor did old Rarity. Some other characters were ignored, despite their appearances in the comics. Flim Flam brothers should not be one of those villains that will destroy Equestria. The pets should have their own canon appearances together (like the comics). Maybe a visit to some of those villains like Tirek. The list goes on and on...

I need to see Starlight's interaction with the gang! I'm not done here yet!

3577919
*three movies

Season 6 and the upcoming movie are both announced, but haven't been released, hence season 5 isn't where it ends, but the EqG movies are out with season 5. So, either it's 5 seasons and 3 movies, or, if you're going for announced content and not including Equestria Girls, 6 seasons and a movie.

I would cry. I mean, there's so much more potential for the show! It shouldn't end until we've had Trixie come back and become a recurring character (she deserves it much more than Starlight), and seen Sunset's return to Equestria. Perhaps also a villain that tries to destroy all friendships.

There's a season since, its been confirmed.
There's MP pony movie, been confirmed
and there will be a 4th EG movie, also confirmed.

I'd be conflicted: I would be happy it ended because it was on a bit of a high note. But looking back we got episodes that left us wanting more: CMC with their new mission to help others undersatnd their cutie-marks, Start-Swirl's secrets, Cadance and Shinings foal, there is so much to look forward to.

An image like that is how I'd want the show to end, yes, but I wouldn't want it to end on these particular episodes.

Bring on Season Six. Bring on character development for Starlight. Bring on Fluttershy's brother. And, hopefully, bring on a return of Sunset Shimmer to Equestria.

Season 4's would have been a better end of the series than this finale.
But it could have been worse if it was the end.

3577990

but the EqG movies are out with season 5

A fourth one was announced.
