Them's Fightin Herds! · 5:58am Oct 13th, 2015
A few weeks ago, a game started its Indegogo campaign. A game called Them's Fightin' Herds. Headed by Mane6 Studios, and created, in part, by Lauren Faust, it's a fighting game about hooved animals beating the ever-holy crap out of each other.
And boy does it look awesome so far. The campaign's losing momentum, though. So I'm going to plug it. This is the only time I'm likely to ask you guys to chip in to something.
You can donate to the campaign here. They have some pretty sweet backer rewards!
Now, I've followed Fighting is Magic since just before the C&D went out. I've played through every major version of the game, "official" or no, through Tribute Edition 2.0. I don't often like fighting games- hell, I'm terrible at them. But something about Fighting is Magic got me- and it wasn't just the ponies. With some practice, I was having way more fun with the game than other fighters, such as SoulCalibur or Injustice.
This game is the spiritual successor, so I'd assume it'll have an improved, streamlined version of the gameplay I loved so much in Fighting is Magic.
But there's something else that draws me to this game- the music. RC88, the music leader for Mane6, made 5/7 of the tracks in the original game. I think he's one of the best instrumental artists to ever come out of the fandom, but that's neither here nor there. They're planning to implement a Dynamic Music System into the game. That is to say that the stage music will change based on what's going on. It'll remix itself in the middle of the game, tuning in the fighter's character themes based on how well they're doing, upping the tempo when things get intense, and so on. It is a really cool system, and I think that concept's promise alone deserves funding.
Then there's the characters involved. The long and short of it is on the Indegogo page, but I'd like to at least comment on one of the characters- Oleander. Oleander intrigues me. As a character, she simultaneously seems both jaded and naïve. Able to look past the ethical qualms associated with dark magic so she could look at ways of using it against it's very nature in service of the greater good. Since we know little about the Unicorn behind the premise, I still can't say for certain. But it's a character idea that gets me thinking. Gets me caring. Lauren Faust is known for good TV, and I am sure beyond a shadow of a doubt that each facet of every character will be lovingly put together as only Lauren can.
That's enough of my little commercial. I hope you guys decide to pitch in- I really don't want to see this campaign fail. I'm only reaching out here because I am desperate.
Do any of you have thoughts on the game, characters or otherwise? I'll be happy to chat in the comments about it.
