What I've been up to for the last couple weeks. · 6:43am Feb 24th, 2016
World of Tanks. Lots and lots of World of Tanks. I'd cry for help if I wasn't so addicted and having so much fun*.
More after the break, if you please.
So anyway, where to start with this game... For starters, it is a lot of fun*. I've got a few tanks I really love to play, such as my beloved Churchill 1. I've made a gaggle of new friends while trying to learn the game, as the part of the community that isn't toxic or trying to troll you are really a great bunch of people. They make the bad moments of the game so much more bearable, and I doubt I could have gotten as far as I have without them.
I've also had quite a bit of fun laughing my butt off at idiots in chat who tell me I'm stupid despite doing 3 times the work they did. Keep in mind I am a noob, and that this happens often anyway. Oh online gaming- never change.
*But there is a caveat to this "fun" I've been having. And I can't recommend the game in good conscience unless I say this:
You know those kinds of games where you get that one really amazing game where you're having more fun than anything else you've ever done ...immediately followed by hours of soul-crushing agony? That's WoT in a nutshell. I can cite a good number of this for this- laughable attempts at game balance, unfairly designed maps, the janky camo system, or the absolutely braindead matchmaking system. And that list is just the tip of the iceberg.
Yet here I am- having sunk a couple weeks straight into the game. Because when it's good, it's the most spectacular game ever. Almost makes it worth being 2 tiers down every 2 games out of 3. Almost.
If any of you guys on the US/NA server want to play, my username in-game is Talguy21... Just like practically everywhere else.
You can get it here if my dubious pitch incited morbid curiosity or something. That said, the learning curve is pretty huge. 1.5k battles later and I'm still a noob.
That's been my post for the month, guys. Now, off to bed so I can go right back to tanking in the morning.
(Oh, and this is what I mean by game balance. A tank that can reliably one-shot anything lower-tier than it, and most of its own tier, while being [see picture] hard to damage, while being only average speed for a heavy tank. Yep. That's balanced alright.)
