    Never A Dull Moment

Thank you all for helping me out back in May  The support means the world to me, and thanks to your kind contributions I was able to go and visit my boy in Britain. I'll try and mock up a proper recap blog—though I am notoriously terrible at doing those, I don't think I've ever managed a proper recap blog for any of the various conventions I've gone to over the years. I guess there was

Manehattan Island Players [SPOILERS] · 9:52pm Sep 27th, 2015

[*Applejack pushes the lawn mower over her hat as she tiredly trudges forward*]
[*She turns around, looks down at the tattered ruins of her one defining characteristic besides apples and charming southernisms*]
All around me are familiar faces...

Yet another Rarity episode! Sadly, with this episode the trilogy of fabulosity, as I have so dubbed it, has come to end. But with it comes a pretty decent episode, and I'm alright with that.

This episode brings the return of Coco Pommel, who I hoped would have been more prominent in Rarity Takes Manehattan because of all the hubbub surrounding her (I watched that episode a few months after it came out), and I was hoping Coco would return in season 4 after that! Sadly, she did not. But now we have her back, and holy shit, was she cute. Everything she did was adorable as all fuck, and Cathy's voice really improved for her. Don't get me wrong, I think she has a great talent, and I love her as Spike, but in season 4 her Coco had too much of Spike's voice in it. Like, they were almost the same character in terms of voice. You can tell the difference between, say, Timmy Turner and Twilight Sparkle; they sound different but you can hear hints of each inside them. And that's what Cathy was able to do with this episode! I could hear hints of Spike, but overall, Coco was Coco.

The plethora of Manehattan ponies with their Brooklyn accents were pretty entertaining, although the skinny stallion with the mustache looked super out of place. I wasn't sure what was going on with him that made me cringe, but I think it was just a mix of... everything. He was unappealing.

The message of this episode was overly-simplistic, but one of the best the show has delivered to date. The message that everyone can do something to help—even if it's just a little—is essential. Of course, MLP can't show gang violence, ghettos, and drug wars, but it can show how just a little bit of effort can be put forward towards making the world a better place, and if everyone makes just a tiny bit of effort, it will compound into a larger effect.

The actual members of the acting troupe were really fucking stuck up. As someone who hobknobs within several troupes himself, I gotta say... that was fucking spot on. Even in Hawaii, we somehow managed to get two people over various troupes who have Brooklyn accents.

This episode was less about Rarity this time around (since she was already so at home with Manehattan) and more about AJ. Her struggles with the city bring up some interesting issues; she visited Manehattan when she was a little filly, so is that where she came to dislike the city from? She seemed to think it was the place for her until she got her cutie mark. And the last time she was in Manehattan (Rarity Takes Manehattan) she didn't seem to have too much of an issue.

And of course, the death of her hat, which understandably brought with it the death of headcanons everywhere. Still, I don't think this has to be the end of "this was my father's hat"—there's a fic in there about coming to terms with the end of things and finally letting go of the past, and all that.

All in all, decent episode. Hooray for Coco.

Take your dick away from the horse, Regidar.

I really did enjoy just what a bunch of cocksuckers the troupe members were, though.

3425255 Gary Jules' version is fucking atrocious. It robs all the interesting parts of the original version and just makes it a psuedo-indie "booh hoo tiem to cri" song. It's MAD World, not SAD World.

3425268 Um... the original song was about a suicidal soldier after the end of World War 2. It's sad and slow paced for a reason. The original is good for wonderful singing and nice 80's flare, but Jules' is about the actual lyrics. I'm fine if you don't like it, but it's not "cri ever tiem", it's about depression after being in one of the most violent conflicts in the past 100 years.

This was a nice episode, it made me feel all fuzy inside. I also liked the way the next episode was set up.
I'm hype for the Big Mac episode.

Daddy hat headcanon has been pretty much dead since season 4.

Unless of course, daddy hat is not the hat Applejack wears. Cue Applejack's daddy hat being a part of a shrine to her dad in the basement of an old barn on the far side of the barn, where the candles never go out, and there's always a twinkle in the eyes of the photographs...

And thus the marshmallow trilogy has come to a close, although admittedly this was more of an AJ episode, which gives me mixed feelings. This is either a good Rarity episode or one of AJ's best, and by that I mean the rare episode that actually makes AJ more than just a stereotype. :trixieshiftleft:

Still, this was a nicely heartwarming one, even though the snobby acting troupe clashed with the rosy-cheeked message the episode was going for. I know theatre nerds are known for being stuck up their own assholes, but it would've been alright to see something different. :fluttershysad:

Luckily the three starring characters are all cute and likable, and goddamnit has the trilogy made a valiant effort to add fuel to the shipping fire with regards to Rarity. :rainbowwild:

Overall, 8/10 would snuggle again. :raritywink:
