Rough Draft Finished! · 11:15pm Jun 27th, 2015
Well, I meant to write this out yesterday, but stuff came up. Anyways, as of yesterday night, I finished the rough draft for the sequel to The Unbearable Lightness (Still strange saying the new name). Plus, I might even have an actual title for the story. Anyways, I thought I'd make an update about it to let you know how things are progressing and what my game plan is. I'm planning on taking the rest of the month off to relax and refresh, but I might start editing sooner, because the urge to make stories is an insatiable all-consuming itch. Here's what I need to do before the story is ready for publishing in easy convenient list form:
1.) Write a description and find cover art - Can be done at any time, but it needs to be done before I can publish anything. Might also play around with the title some.
2.) Complete the first round of edits - There are twelve chapters. This should theoretically take no longer than twelve days as long as I can do one a day. Chapters range between 3,000-14,000 words, with the average being around 6,000, I'd guess, although that's a very rough estimate. I know it's over 70,000 words at the moment, but that total can grow or shrink depending on the edits.
3.) Ship the revised versions off to my editors - For all the particulars of grammar and stuff, nobody can beat them, plus they'll have some other great ideas about how I can make the story better.
4.) Apply edits - Make any last minute changes and continuity checks.
Once I have about four or five chapters finished, I'll upload them to FimFiction, let EQD know the sequel's ready, and then start publishing. Haven't really worked out a schedule on when the chapters will go up, but I would very much like to get the first chapter or two out before BronyCon, so... until then.
Oh, and what the hell, for reading through all this incoherent mess of a blog, let me reward you with the current title:
The Diamond in the Stars
See you next time.
Nice title, I likes it.
P.S: I'll be at Bronycon this year maybe I'll run into you (assuming that you mentioned it because you'll be going).
3188091 This'll be my third year in a row, very excited, and if you stop by Quills and Sofas, I should have my times listed there.
And thanks, I'm glad you like the title. Hopefully it doesn't spoil the whole thing.
Looking forward to it. :)
...I have a title now?
But it's so girly
...ah, what the hell.
I DECLARE THAT I SHALL WEAR THIS GIRLY TITLE PROUDLY!!
I'll get back on the editorial job as soon as I get my PC back to some semblance of stability again... The stupid Samsung SSD in my main desktop PC decided to just die on me for no reason at all, or at least none that I can determine, so I'm limping by on a laptop until I get everything glued back together again on the big machine. (I didn't lose any actual data, fortunately; all of my documents, pictures, emails, etc. are stored on a mirrored RAID1 array, which is in turn periodically backed up to an external RAID5 NAS box. It was the Windows boot drive that died. Aggravating, but not fatal, except possibly to my blood pressure. ) I just got done installing Windows 7, drivers, Forte Agent (email/usenet client), and Firefox, so with any luck things should be back to (ab)normal in another evening or two.
So much for SSDs being more reliable... that stupid Samsung 840 barely lasted four months in service. I've never had a normal spinny-disk hard drive die after only four months!
3191084 No worries. I'm going to try and get through chapters one and two today. Any chance you'll respond to that one email about that thing we can't discuss in public soon?
