One year anniversary, and regarding Apple Surprise · 12:52pm May 3rd, 2015
If you're here because of Apple Surprise, then scroll down to the scene break. That's where you'll find it.
Anyways...
I'm making this blog for the milestone I achieved today. This day last year, I created my account on Fimfiction and also released my first story. And today, I hit the three-hundred-and-sixty-five day mark. I'm one year old on Fimfiction today.
I saw it coming, but I didn't know how it would feel. Others have been around far longer than myself. Even more than 3 years in some cases. And that's admirable. Being on a pony fanfiction site for so long. But I finally put it in perspective.
"Wow. It's been a year."
I've had good times here so far. There have also been a few hiccups at times. I've released twenty-three stories within this time. And that's not counting a seven month period where I've released nothing. That's under half a year that I've written and published twenty-three stories. And shortly after, my productivity crumbled. Writing has simply been tougher for me to acually do. At times, it's felt like a chore, rather than something engaging and fun. It doesn't help that I've lost a lot of motivation r cently, and that's not just referring to writing.
It's happened with my life. Things have happened. But, I'm now trying to push past the roadblocks and get myself more active and motivated with my life. Hopefully, my writing productivity will come back. At the moment, I write a few hundred words in a day if I'm lucky, and then the story in question never gets continued. This is why I haven't published anything in so long.
I'm trying, though. I do hope to get something out. But, I just cannot set a date or promise anything. But I will try.
It's been a year. I hope to continue and make the next and ones after better.

Okay, now about Apple Surprise and why I tagged it.
To this day, from my stories, it remains my personal favourite. I thought I hit the idea right, and I'm genuinely happy with the result. It's my highest rated story so far, and that tells me that readers have enjoyed it. I thank everyone who has read, favourited, and liked it. It's been out for a long time now, and, if you've seen Bloom and Gloom, you will probably know what that episode has done to the story. It has not ruined it in any way, but the mere mention of Babs having received her cutie mark has kind of messed up what the story is about.
Then again, the story isn't about Babs trying to obtain her cutie mark. It's about family. Still, the episode happened, and I happily take what they did:
I do like it.
But back to the story...
I never did anything more with Apple Surprise. I am glad how it turned out. I am also still thankful to Bad_Seed_72 for making it much better than it originally was. I still have the original draft somewhere, and comparing it to the end result?
Yeah, it looks way better.
I always wanted to submit the story to Equestria Daily, because I thought it might be the kind of thing they're looking for, and I figured, "Why not?" I never did that until the other dat. I submitted it merely ten months after I released the story. And yesterday, it got rejected.
And when I look at the feedback given to me, yeah, I can see it. The story is in no way perfect and flawless. And there were decisions that I made that could be improved on. Which is fair.
I wouldn't want to rewrite an entire story just to make Equestria Daily. In a way, it feels like a challenge just to get bragging rights and boost my ego. Still, more exposure is nice. And I haven't been featured there.
This is why I'm going to look at the feedback I got, and slowly go through the story, making a few edits every now and then. I'm a slow worker, so this will be slow and gradual. Over time, I hope that the story will be even better than it is already in its language, which is still a positive. And then, hopefully, I'll submit it to Equestria Daily again and it'll make it. It'd be nice to get on there.
Who knows when it will happen?
I don't, but hopefully it will. I'll just have to tweak parts of Apple Surprise before I get there.
Congratulations on your first year!
And yes, I quite recall liking that story for the most part. Though know that even if you fix everything up to their grammatical standards, and suggestions, you can and normally will end up getting rejected. And I wouldn't be surprised if it boiled down to having to rewrite a whole new story out of it.
But best of luck!

Well, not going to know until I do it. If it gets rejected again, it gets rejected. I'd rather not rewrite an entire story from the ground up when I'm already happy at how its turned out for the feature when I could work on other stories.
But thanks.
