Trouble Shoe- NO Troubled Writing! Darn in Polsky! · 7:17pm May 2nd, 2015
Don't read this if you haven't seen the episode!
Done?
Ok...
GOD! Polsky! You did so well with the Spike episode and then you give me this? Seriously?
Now, I have two enormous problems with his writing lately and I will be frank about it:
ALL SIDE CHARACTERS HE TOUCHES TURN STUPID!
First we have Spike, then Daring Do, LUNA and now Braeburn!
Seriously, can this guy not write an episode without turning one character into a butt-monkey? Braeburn in horribly irresponsible, stupid and borderline unwatchable. God, he was such a fun and energetic guy in his debut and Polsky broke him.
Now, I won't complain about the authorities completely disregarding Troubleshoes record for vandalism (which he obviously has) or how the moral basically is "go to scary-looking, downtrodden fugitives, they are probably nice" or "Physical entertainers don't have to train their craft to make falls look good! F*CK YOU JACKIE CHAN!"... its Polsky, he doesn't do story well...
I will complain about him NOT EVEN ADJUSTING TO THE GOD DAMN SETTING!
The CMC WALK INTO A FOREST! A BOREAL FOREST! IN THE DESERT TOWN APPLELOOSA! WHERE *QUOTE* NOTHING GROWS BESIDE THE ORCHARD? AND THEN THERE IS A RAINSTORM? IN THE DESERT? ON THE DAY BEFORE A RODEO? WHEN THE WEATHER PEGASI SHOULD KEEP THE PLACE DRY?
Sorry for that long capslock, but I had to vent... this is just so sloppy and feels half-assed as heck. Especially since I know that Polsky can do better... I really liked "Too many Pinkie Pies" and "Equestria Games"... but he really dropped the ball here... and kicked it away... into the cheerleader pyramid... which fell over, injuring fifty...
Actually, Appleajck mentions at one point the rain is because they need mud for some reason. It's in the scene where they've just finished re-stacking the hay in the rain.
I'm kinda sad Dave Polsky is still writing for the series honestly.
3037856 Sorry, I must have overheard this line. It does not invalidate my other complaints though.
3039949 I hate picking on writers, but I agree. Polsky has some good moments, but he is completely void of subtlety and pacing. Heck, even his good plots hinge completely on convenience and OOC moments...
3040532 It is kind of unfortunate. I feel guilty picking on writers only if they refuse to change after having been made aware of the problem. If you fail to learn from your mistakes and continue to make them despite multiple opportunities to correct them, how worthy are you really of being paid to do something over an extended period of time?
