Here be spoilers.
First, let's get the elephant in the room out of the way.
One of my favorite characters got her Cutie Mark off screen and sounds pretty lame but, like everything else, can be a recipe for great things! Like fanfictions! Also, it's funny that their new member was the first to get it while the other will probably have to struggle for, like, a season.
Many of you may think that the "All Just a Dream" trope may be lame but I don't think this is the case. A well written dream can be a well written character study. Frankly, we all knew Applebloom's worst fears and we had finally a chance to see them on screen without any fear of repercussions. The CMCs friendship will withstand even worst things than, I don't know, getting a Cutie Mark 
It also makes space for the sorta myth arc of this season, the meaning of a Cutie Mark. Not gonna lie: At first I thought it was going to be The Cutie Pox 2.0, I even thought that Starlight was coming back and stealing AB's potential Cutie Mark and that would have been creepy! Also, Scootaloo has messed up dreams but I think we all know that.
Also, I hope none of you is going to retroactively change your older Babs fan fic to fit with her new Cutie Mark. I know I won't 
And speaking of Babs, there's a new chapter for you, my lovelies. Let's just say nothing is going to get cut

In fairness, the "All just a dream" trope is normally only considered lame when it's used to cop-out on changes to the status-quo. FiM has been using them as character exploration, which is MUCH better a use for them, as you say.
Also, Luna is second best princess.
I've been sitting here for a few minutes trying to find a way to use scissors or cutting as some kind of euphemism for hot futa sex.

Exactly. As long as it has a point, there's nothing wrong with a dream episode, it's only unbearable when that trope is used to yank the audience's chain with a cheap plot twist.
Also, is anyone else starting to think that Luna is getting a bigger role in the series than Celestia now ? Sunbutt didn't even get to send Twilight on her traditional season-opening quest this time...

Did anyone notice that not even Sweetie Belle can resist pairing Vinyl and Octavia together?
Also, Luna's dream power. We saw in season 4 that she could show Sweetie Belle memories from Rarity, which suggests that she can access the memories of anypony so long as they're asleep. Sort of like the NSA. And now we see that she can freely show somepony the dreams of other ponies. Sounds like a serious violation of privacy and confidentiality to me.
This idea needs to be explored in other stories. Maybe Luna charges a fee to be showing dreams like they're movies? Maybe Luna is a bigger troll than Celestia?
