The Long Earth Series Continues · 10:44am Apr 17th, 2015
I mentioned in my last blog post that I was curious about the status of the Long Earth series with Terry Pratchett gone. Eventually, I broke down and sent an email to Stephen Baxter's contact to ask.

Subject: The Long Earth SeriesWith a release date of this summer, I assume that The Long Utopia is basically done, and will be largely unaffected by the passing of Terry Pratchett. However, as I understand it, there is a contract for 5 books in the series. How will Terry Pratchett's death affect the final book in the series? Will Stephen Baxter complete the series on his own, have the pair already done significant work on the 5th book, or will it be canceled?

Subject: Re: The Long Earth SeriesHi Lithl. Thanks for getting in touch. Stephen Baxter and Terry Pratchett spent most of the time at their first meetings mapping out all five books, and Terry left behind a good amount of his part of the final manuscript. Baxter has a couple other commitments in the meantime but the fifth book will definitely be published.
So, while the news last month was definitely sad, fans of the series can look forward to its completion. There's always a silver lining.
Well, that's good to know. Thanks for the update.
While I'm thrilled that the series will be completed, I'm almost afraid to ask what happened earlier this week. Did someone else pass?

No, just Terry Pratchett. He was one of the two authors on The Long Earth series.
2990407 oh, gotcha. I was misled by the "earlier this week" part towards the end there, since it's been awhile since his death. (Still kinda makes me sad.)

Because I double-checked my last blog post and saw "13th" but not "Mar", and I was sleepy.
