I changed the name, since I figured "The Girl Who Went to Canterlot" was too indicative of a typical HiE self-insert, which I certainly hope it is NOT.
Thanks again to my editors, and to my audience as well.
Personally, there are only 3 other HiE fics that are not crossovers that I read. They are each as very uniquely different from each other as this one is from them, but all just as good as each other in their own style. TCE is definitely on the same level as the others.
Through the Eyes of Another Pony by CardsLafter is a story written with the express purpose of proving that any concept can be written well and accepted by the masses. To do so he wrote as many of the worst HiE tropes as possible into his story, but focused on making the story interesting and likable, rather than believable. It also has some pretty deep sci-fi goodness near the end. Right now it's in a weird place though. The author is rewriting the entire story, so the original first 14 chapters can be found on EqD GDocs links, the rewritten chapters 1 & 2 can be found here on FimFiction. He's also writing chapter 15, the last chapter of part 1 of 2 of the story, in multiple parts and releasing them in reverse order. So the part out now is actually the end of the chapter. Now... despite the MASSIVE spoilers, that is actually what I would recommend you read first if you only want to sample the story.
(Oh yeah, and I also came up with the protagonist's name.)
Article 2 by Muppetz is a much simpler story. A marine wakes up in a hospital room in Canterlot Castle after a catastrophic accident. It's written with personal knowledge of military mindsets, but not as a self insert. It's just incredibly well written and emotionally characterized. It's designed to get you to understand the human rather than simply like him.
Tinker, Tanner, Hunter, Spy by Shamus_Aran. Hmm... Equestria is basically one of many veiled fey kingdoms in a fantasy/arcanapunk version of medieval Europe. Basically the story starts when the main character stumbles out of the Everfree Forrest and tries to shoot Big Mac with an arrow so he can eat him. Also there are weird size differences. Like the ponies are pretty big. Big enough to actually ride. But foals like the CMC are tiny. And Pinkie Pie is balls to the walls awesome in this fic.
It most certainly is not.

201721 What are the others? I'd like to read them.
WHOA WHOA WHOA

How did I not catch that that story was by the same author as Daylight Burning!? *bumps it to the top of the To Read list*
[Edit] Also, "The Canterlot Embassy" sounds MUCH more like something I'd like to read than "The Girl Who Went to Canterlot". Good call there.
