An Introduction · 7:35pm Jun 18th, 2012
So this is the great, big world of fanfiction. There's quite a bit of odd stuff floating around here, my own notwithstanding, but in all generally entertaining. I think I'm going to like it here.
I think some basics are in order here. I'm a 30-year-old married father of two boys, the youngest of whom loves watching My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. My enthusiasim in the show is largely due to his own, so I suppose that certifies me as a brony dad. I'm also a military veteran, my last occupation being a photojournalist. Right now I'm back in school to finish a bachelor's degree in public relations. That avenue of my writing abilities may be my most profitable, but storytelling has been my most enjoyable.
So those of you who have read Ponyville Pawn Stars probably have one question on your minds: why? I don't blame you, I've asked myself that same question a few times. I mean, let's try and draw a connection here: dudes in Las Vegas buying people's junk on one hand, magical ponies in Equestria solving life's problems (and thwarting evil on occasion) with the power of friendship on the other. Dudes, ponies. Vegas, Equestria. Junk, magic. Hmm...
Still don't see it?
My answer to this question is this: why not? I'm a fan of both shows, and I'd like to think that I'm a halfway creative person. So when that spot in time appeared in which I considered the possibility of whacking these two great ideas together, I ran with it. I picked up my iPad (which I almost exclusively have been composing everything PPS-related on), started jotting ideas down, and before I knew it the simple concept snowballed into a story. No, not a story: a series of episodes based on my original idea, almost like a television spinoff (on a side note, I do appreciate a good TV spinoff when it's done well. Case in point: Cheers and Fraiser). Of course, they're all still locked in my head, and the hard part has always been getting those stories out. Thankfully, I have an outlet like this that will keep me driving on in what has been one of my favorite hobbies ever.
I'm enjoying all the positive comments and subscriptions, and I hope I can continue to entertain more readers with each new episode. As always, I'm open to whatever comments, suggestions or criticisms you may have for the series. Talk to you all again soon.
Halfway? Nah, you have got skill my brother and I welcome you to Fimfiction.net.....What's it like being a father? And how long have you been a Brony? Remember, your an adult, as such you can do and say whatever you like, that includes liking MLP: Fim. Anyway...yeah.....so....GO DERPY AND SPIKE/TWILIGHT ROMANCE PAIRINGS!!!
Remember: Derpy is BOSS!!!
181438, being a dad is one of the happiest, scariest, most frustrating and enjoyable things I've ever done in my life. The fact that I'm a brony (have been for the last several months) and the father of a kid who loves MLP makes both experiences even better. By about 20%, you might say.
In other news, I have about 6000 words written for Episode 2 with plot lines (no pun intended) sketched out for at least four more episodes. I've probably got another thousand words to write in order to tie up E2. Each subsequent episode will probably be 2K-3K words shorter than the pilot on account of not having the TV studio plot device (again, no pun intended) or all the exposition needed to set the series up. I'm trying to keep it fun as I write and not get stuck with rehashing Pawn Stars episodes or anything like that. Writing becomes work when it ceases to be fun, and there's next to no room for passion or originality in work writing. More updates coming as they happen.
