You can probably guess what this is about from the title alone. I'm a bit late to the party regarding my thoughts and that on the site changes. Well, actually, I'm not going into that. Long story short, I like the new layout, some things will take some time to get used to. There. This isn't a blog dedicated to the entire site layout.
The purpose of this blog is to direct your attention to the Bookshelves. Just now, I did some last-minute touches (for now) for all of my current Bookshelves. Some of my followers and authors in general might have gotten notifications that I added a story to one or more of them. That's just me moving stuff around.
So I thought I'd share my Bookshelves themselves, and what each one is for. If any links don't work, then let me know.
First off,
"General Favourites for everything I like. Unsorted because either they don't fit into anything specific, or I haven't realised that they do yet."
I haven't been on this site long enough back when it used that Tracking feature. With the addition of it in this site update, I kind of found it unneccesary. Guess I've just been used to Favourites and Read It Later. So I got rid of it, and in general, if I'm following a story, or if I just like a story, it goes in here. It's basically a pile for things I like. At the moment, it's quite low because of reasons I'll get into at the end.
"These fics are, to me, the very top of things I've enjoyed, and I would happily promote and recommend them."
I'm quite biased when it comes to certain authors, and I don't really have high standards. I'm one of those who generally likes most things, so this is quite larger than what some people might make theirs i.e the very top stories (something like a Top Ten). Mine is just bigger because I really like a lot of stuff. And this stuff, to me, is just... how do I say this? Better. Much better than General Favourites. If you're an author I like, or I really enjoy your story, it'll likely end up in here. So, basically, if I'm following you, you should probably expect every story you pump out from here on out to wind up in here. That's good, of course. Remember: I'm biased, so if I love your work, then you'll be here quite a lot. It's not just people I follow of course; there's quite a number of stories that belong to authors I don't follow.
As I'm a bit of a slow reader, and the amount of stories I read is kind of low, this folder could easily be filled with those top stories you enjoy as well. Like, perhaps Twilight's List if you deem it so. The reason why such a story may not be in this Bookshelf is that my tastes and others' tastes are different, I forgot about it, I haven't added it, or I haven't read it, but rest assured that its absence doesn't detract any quality from it whatsoever. This is just stuff I've found, read, immensely enjoyed, and put in a Bookshelf where I deem it so. And as the description says, I would happily promote or recommend these. Depends on the situation and what I'd be promoting it for, of course.
"Stuff that I should get through and/or has been recommended to me."
Exactly what it says on the tin really. It's really unchanged since the update, and is a complilation of fics that I haven't gotten through yet. Some have been read in-progress, say like a chapter or two, but have since been undecided. Some have been in there for months, so... yeah. Also, if you want to recommend me a story, or promote something that interests me, I'll likely put it in here. Feel free to recommend to me too. Can't gurantee I'll read it, but you never know. Just... don't recommend stories that are, like, over 200,000 words. It'll probably take me six months to read that, and it takes a lot of motivation on my end to do that.
"A Bookshelf dedicated to my favourite ship: Twilight x Pinkie."
OH GEE, I WONDER WHAT THIS BOOKSHELF IS ABOUT. Yeah, it's pretty obvious, and I'm not hiding it. It was pretty inevitable too when the Bookshelves came out. Anything TwiPie, it goes in here. Whether it's in my General Favourites, Top Favourites or other Bookshelves, it'll go in here. That's if TwiPie is the main or secondary focus though. There's a few that are friendshipping, yet they're still in there. I'm quite lenient. For example, I've heard that Steel Resolve's Green has TwiPie in it, though I'm not sure if that's true or not... Well, time to add another story to Read It Later and find out. How long is it? 222,162 words?! MOTHERFU—
"A Bookshelf dedicated to Crazy Twilight, because it needs to exist."
This Bookshelf is both serious and silly at the same time. It's a Bookshelf, completely and solely dedicated to Twilight being a crazy loon. HOW COULD I NOT DO THIS? Any story that has Twilight acting as an insane muppet, it'll go here. It overlaps with other folders, depending on the content, but there's both silly and serious insane Twilight stories to be put here. If Twilight is Twilight, giving an, "Oh, you," moment, oh yeah, it's being added.
Cos Twilight is adorable when she's insane.
"The fun pile: Stories with Comedy and/or Random tag."
A Bookshelf dedicated to the weird stories, with Comedy and/or Random. It's got two sides: The one side which could be a straight-up Comedy that's meant to be taken seriously, and the trollfics that are labelled Random (aka half of Regidar's fics, which I still haven't read). Twilight the Book Worm would be put in here, is what I'm saying, yet some of RainbowBob's Comedies are here too. It's more of a crazy pile, but just because a story might have the Comedy or Random tag doesn't immediately make it go here. And, like some others, it overlaps.
"Because Rarity."
Do I have to say anything? Seriously, must I talk about this at all? It's Rarity; pure Rarity. If a story has Rarity as a main character for whatever, it'll be piled in here. I had to do this! BECAUSE. IT'S. RARITY! She gets to have her own folder, because it's Rarity.

That's what I got so far. There are some stories that are in Bookshelves that could probably be put in others and would overlap. I'm not trying not to do that or anything; I just haven't gone through each one individually to add them. Also, bringing up the point of my low amount of Favourites now (both General and Top), it's because, like Read It Later, I don't read a huge amount of stories compared to some others. There's likely a lot more of stories that'll get put in these two folders, don't fret, but, at the moment, not now. I'd also not prefer not to go through someone I follow and add each story individually to the same Bookshelf. I mean, I likely love it anyway, but it seems a bit mundane to a degree. But... perhaps I'll do it anyway. They're stories I love, after all, so they should be there.
This is also very likely not finalised. I will most likely be adding new Bookshelves in the future. What they'll be on and when they'll be made is anyone's guess, but I wouldn't be surprised if I made a CheesePie Bookshelf, then go and add all the CheesePie Favourites I have into it. And then you'll look at your notifications and go, "Oh look, Derpator's at it again."
But, that's what I got for now. Genre tags might become their own Bookshelves. I'd rather not, given the mundane task of putting every single story into every single category it fits into; I'd be better off combining a few, or doing something different. Individual ships maybe? They could work, but I'm a big shipper. Food for thought.
But that's me done. As before, do feel free to recommend me stories if you'd like. Might have read 'em already, might not have; it's your decision. And if you get a hell-load of notifications that I've gone and added your gazillion fics to my bajillion Bookshelves, don't be surprised.
I've started my own bookshelves as well, though a bit more widespread and less specific on any one pony or character.
