    Watch (This) Space

    Hello everyone!

I've been gone on hiatus for a few years. I stopped watching My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic in the middle of the seventh season. But a few months ago, my interest was rekindled. And the last two seasons were fantastic. The high point, for me, is the new characters -- the Student Six -- who breathed fresh life into the show.

Little Songs of Gloom · 4:11pm Oct 10th, 2014

art by Puppysmiles*!

(*a.k.a Mimezinga)

I've been distracted playing an awesome game. (I'm sure you can guess which one. :rainbowdetermined2: Hint below.) So this week's blog is a light one. I'm bringing you more songs by Little Gloom (first introduced to you in my blog "Thank You, Plus Pony Music".) This time, a number of short servings.

Some of the songs were short just by nature of the song being parodied, such as this tune Little Gloom broke into while in the market place of an agricultural center.

"Asparagus"
by Little Gloom
to the tune of "Aquarius" by The 5th Dimension

"When the sun has risen 'bove the clouds, the marketplace fills up with carts. Then caps will burn our pockets, and trade will lure our hearts!"

“This is the morning I will buy some asparagus! Buy some asparagus. As-para-gus!"

“In the market lines are forming, bazaar sights and smells are calling,
“Harmonious pony living forged through commerce and thanksgiving,
“Friendship shared through integration…
“...and a lunch of vegetation! Asparagus! As-para-gus!"

"When the sun has risen 'bove the clouds, and ponies come to sell and buy,”
“We share in our community, one town under the sky.”

"This is the line up to the stall for asparagus! The stall for asparagus. As-para-gus!"

"Come ‘enath the awning of the stage of asparagus! The stage of asparagus. As-para-gus!"

Inspired by this picture:

This next one was unusual both in that I drew from only a specific portion of a song to create Little Gloom's lyrics, and that I stayed very true to the original. Normally, as you see above, I try to use as few of the original work's lyrics and rhymes as possible, and try to add variation even within the choruses.

"Canterlot"
by Little Gloom
to the tune of "Insanity" by Oingo Boingo

“All across the city now, like a pink bubblegum cloud!
“Over rooftops, through the street, every pony it will greet!
"Overtaking like a storm. Wash in it and be reborn!
"Time for Canterlot to die. Pink Cloud kisses. Say goodbye.”

“Cloud of pink lethality, here it comes to set us free!
“No use hiding here or there; Pink Cloud seeps in everywhere!
“Princesses will die today. Canterlot will wash away!
“Swooping down on you and me. Say goodbye mortality!”

Sometimes, the length of the song was determined by the scene, especially during combats. In close combat, the little zebra could hold her own; while not strong, she was small and fast, and very skilled with her sickle (or "moon blade" as she called it, for Gloom was a Luna-worshipper) which she had often laced with poisons. But in ranged combat, she cheerfully relegated herself to the role of mascot, keeping up morale an a bard-like way. I'd space out having her sing verses and choruses so that the song was constant without spamming, and the songs would end when the battle did... which often made for shorter pieces. (As you may remember from my blog Equestrian Wasteland Games.)

This song began with Little Gloom slipping away her knife as the air began filling with the sound of battle drums and bagpipes. Like Pinkie Pie, she summoned her own music from nowhere.

"Battle Hymn of the Zanzebra"
by Little Gloom
to the tune of "March of Cambreadth" by Heather Alexander

“Oooh, rifles fire and moon knife swings! Pegasus and griffin wings…
These enemies have drawn our ire. We’ll drive these ghouls into the fire!
“Their weapons will serve them for naught. We’ll leave ‘em on the field to rot!
“With unicorns and pegasi, how many ghouls can we make die?”

“All for one and one for all, together we will make them fall!
“We know no fear, we know no pain, in battle we are all insane!
“We’ll school them on waging war; then they won’t bother us no more!
“Let no zombies pass us by! How many ghouls can we make die?”

In this case, the song was a duet, and Clouddancer, the pegasus mare who had just adopted Little Gloom as her own filly, sang the second part.

"Family"
by Little Gloom
to the tune of "Call Me Al" by Paul Simon

““A filly runs through the wastes. She says, ‘Who’s going to love me now?’
“Who’s going to love me now and is there a place I belong?
“I need the power of friendship; I need a caring teacher.
“Who will I look up to? Who will listen when I sing my song?

“But here in this marketplace, in Butterfly Basin,
"She looks around, and sees a pegasus smiling at her lovingly,
“And she sings, ‘Luna, hallelujah!’”

“We could be a family, you and me with hearts abloom,
“I can call you mommy! And mommy when you call me, you can call me Gloom!"

Interesting. How are you today?

don't mind me, I'm just here to fix your toaster and steal your radio:scootangel:

How is Wastelands 2? My love of Fallout wants me to get it, but I want to be sure,

The part with Littlepip successfully repairing the toaster... critically, even, was the best.

So...

Was the toaster in a certain apartment?

I thought of the same thing when I saw toaster repair as a skill, I can defiantly make a littlepip character in the game. It only helps when you can add your own images for character creation to the game, so their photos can be of ponies. It's something I might do in my second play-through. Littlepip, Blackjack, Murky, and Silverstorm, the new best Dessert Rangers.

2523445 DO IT! :pinkiehappy:
Seriously. I was kind of iffy on buying it, but I'm so glad I did. It turns into a turn-based strategy shooter for combat sequences, but outside of combat it's highly Fallout-esque, and is extremely player-choice story driven. Your ability to make all of your characters unique means the replayability is massive. It also has a lot of gameplay available per playthrough. (I'm a bit slow, but even still I'm around 18 hours in and probably not even half way done with the story, not to mention endless distractions sidequests.)

It's a lot more akin to Fallout 1 and 2 than 3 and NV, though. A lot less "world exploration" and a lot more story.

Such a sweet duet. If only somebody like Skybolt would do covers for these songs with these lyrics. Musicians, get on that.

You've lost me on what the game is, btw. I'm not up to date on current gaming, as I've been busy working my way through BioShock, Half-Life (or, more specifically, the Black Mesa Source mod), and the original Fallout, which is making me furious (such trite gameplay! And that Luna damned time limit! Argh!!), but I'm forcing my way through it so I can start on Fallout 2. Is it S.T.A.L.K.E.R or something like that?

hi hi

Wasteland 2 makes me wish that I had moneys. :ajsleepy:

Since we're talking about music, I'll share something I whipped up too. I'm not very good with lyrics though, but you know what they say, create anyway.

"Old Heart"
By Rally Round
To the tune of Wish You Were Here, by Pink Floyd

"So, do you think you can see, yourself from me, cold hopes from light.
Can you tell these gray skies from an old broken heart
A crowd from apart
So you think you must know?

Did you need to believe in truth or tall tales?
Hard choices or fate?
Poison or a dull hate?
Flawed choices or fire?
Would you desire a meager part of the whole or the whole pile of remains?

"Littlepip used Toaster Repair!"
"Littlepip critically succeeded when using Toaster Repair"
:rainbowlaugh:

That reminds me, I still have to play that game.

Also, Oingo Boingo <3

How curious
Just today i watched a review of wasteland 2 and thought:
"Seems like the kind of game Kkat would play"
And a few hours later i read this and surprise! Kkat is actually playing it.
How curious

In any case if anyone is curious about this game i found this review to be "fair"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpSA7MAQxlE&list=UUCODtTcd5M1JavPCOr_Uydg

Dang it, Kkat! I wanted to do a wasteland 2 playthrough with gang! I was trying to decide between Zenith and Steelhooves! Why did you beat me to it?

When I get an upgrade for muh PC i'm gonna being playing the hell out of wasteland 2.
It looks like the bastard offspring of Xcom and the fallout series.
Just so much jelly right now.

I don't think every song is by Oingo Boingo, Kkat.

Although I'm coming to see that I do need more Oingo Boingo in my life.

But that "Pink Cloud" song . . . that's dark. I'd like to hear somebody record that.

2527932 EEEP! Hell of an editing error. Thank you!

And you listen close you'll hear yours truly as Casey Jones :3
