[Researcher Twilight] Status Update. · 5:48am Oct 1st, 2014

A quick reminder/update: As many of you may know by now, I've taken over writing Researcher in lieu of NATOstrike due to recent events. For those who don't know yet, NATO had an extremely unfortunate incident that cut his ability to write short.

Since Nate's handing me Researcher Twilight, I've made an effort to finish up my current editing jobs, forsaken my second love, (I'll be back for you Visual novels, I promise!) and have studied his notes a few times. While I am his editor, one tiny detail slipped my mind when I offered to continue the story for him...

I forgot our writing style's are completely different from one another's!

Editing content that is already written is one thing, but coming up with it from sratch is a whole new ball game. I Quickly realized this the I sat down the other day to begin writing. So in effort to not have a complete and total train wreck from where Nate left off and I began, I had to go back and not only reread, but study Researcher Twilight to better familiarize myself with mimicking his writing style.

I quickly realized this is going to be much harder than I originally anticipated.

While not at all impossible to overcome, it will however slow my writing of the first two chapters or so that I write for the story while I get used to writing like this. Essentially it's like going from doing your daily life with your right hand and suddenly switching to your left when you are right handed. It takes a bit of time to get used to. Even if I had realized this before hand, I' still have picked up ReTwi, I'd just have been a bit better prepared by now.

So that's the current state of affairs regarding ReTwi atm. I'm writing, it's just gonna take a little longer than expected for a while. It will be hard, but here's something to remember:

You'll be fine. If anyone can do this, it's you. I'll be here to help as well.

You've got this, Azu. Remember: my Nate-like Grammar Nazi services are available to you at all times. I may not be quite as skilled in grammatical details as him, but I'm pretty darn close, and I'm as nit-picky as they come.

We aren't expecting a perfect style mesh. It is actually the hallmark of a good editor if he writes in a significantly different way than the writer.

Thing is, you are at a very good point in the story for it to change style. I mean you had the whole build up -- and now we are at the fall.

Good luck, can't say that I've read this particular story, though it sounds like it's a good one.

True. Between you and Cookie, I'm not necessarily worried about that stuff. This is more a stylistic and sentence structure concern I have.

I'll keep that in mind. I just want to try and keep things as close to how Nate had it flowing and what not.

It is no secret that I am 'very' bad at punctuation and grammar, which is why I call myself an editor and not a proof reader. :trollestia: My specialty and strengths land in creativity, story elements, dialogue, flow, pacing, blah blah blah. "Story Stuff." :moustache:

...That and I am extremely lazy when it comes to punctuation and grammar outside of my actual story writing. However I have access to a pair of Proof Reading Robots to help me clean up all that crap.

To be honest here: i think it would be a mistake to try and mimic his writing style - that would be like trying to mimic his personality. I think you would be better of 'only' trying to capture the feel of the story and the characters.

I get where you are coming from, but I don't necessarily see it that way.

For me it's more of consistency thing, however I'll be changing it up a bit and see how it turns out. Hopefully nobody kills me. :rainbowwild:
