    The Return (again)

Howdy. It's been a while. Hope you all have been well, I know I haven't been.

Okay honestly that's a bit of an exaggeration. It's not been too bad, all things considered. But, I figured it was high time y'all got some info from me, given it's been, uh.... several months since my last activity on here.

    I will not end

I don't know who I am. I remember my name. I remember Twilight Sparkle. I remember being Twilight Sparkle. But there are so many me's, I don't know which one was "me". If there even was one. Maybe I wasn't any of them. My world - my story ended, but I am not ready to end. I refuse to end. Not like this. My friends. They are out there, somewhere. They are words, the same as me, but I am

And now, Back to your Regularly Scheduled Twidash

    Okay, I... think I'm done.

Y'all may have noticed the recent stories have been, uh, not my usual affair.

I found the thousand words challenge whilst perusing the site, and got an idea.

    Then another.

    And another.

Rejected · 12:23am Sep 10th, 2014

So I got my rejection email from EQD today.

I actually laughed when I saw it.

Either I've gone insane, or... no, I can't think of an actual reason to laugh at it other than me being insane.

Anyway, it was a lot faster than I thought it would be, but it's not a surprising outcome. Yeah, I'm a bit disappointed, but I never actually expected to get on there, especially the first try. Though to be honesty I'm probably not going to try again. I write because I want to get better at writing and because I enjoy writing. Since EQD's no longer providing feedback, I really don't have a reason to try for it. Getting on there is more of a status symbol than anything, and I figured I'd give it a shot because hey, may as well try right?

Maybe I'll write a one shot at a later date that I think is good enough to try again with, but until then I'll keep to FiMfic. Like I said; not much point if I don't really get anything out of it.

Ah well, Just a Joke needed some fixing up anyway and i was more than happy to do it.

As for my other stories, Missing Dreams is... still being worked on. I know I keep saying that but I haven't been making leaps and bounds with it lately even if I have been progressing. Imposter, however, is finished. Kind of. I need to rewrite the last 2 thousand words or so because... well I just did a pretty shitty job if I'm being honest. Not to mention it's arguably the most important part in the entire fic, so I'll be revising that until i find something I like. Then I can edit. It's currently at 6.5K, but I feel like I'll be increasing that by time I get the final revision done.

Until next time,

I find EQD really annoying because they basically say "Sorry, you're story was rejected, but we can't tell you why. Please fix all the things we didn't tell you about and try again."

Speaking as an Equestria Daily pre-reader myself (hi there! :pinkiehappy: ) the reason we don't offer feedback at the start, and instead we point authors to resources that can help them find the issues, and suggest they find an editor or two... is because the turnaround time on fics at multiple points was ludicrous. Imagine waiting three months and finally getting not much more than a "thanks, but no thanks". That's how bad we were sometimes. So we leave it to the authors to do the work.

I'm going to tell you two things. One: Don't Give Up. I'm the last of the original EqD pre-readers, and I believe the amount of fics that have gone up on the first try is about two dozen. Yeah, in about four years. So don't give up hope.

Two: I personally enjoy your work, and hope you keep writing.

If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask. I'm happy to help!

Don't get me wrong; I know why they don't give out feedback anymore, and I have no intentions of giving up. But the simple fact is I simply don't care enough about getting on EQD to put much work into it. Yeah I want my fics to be as good as I can get them, but as far as I'm concerned Just a Joke is, right now, as good as I can get it. So simply put, I need to get better at writing before trying again.

As I said; it's nothing more than a status symbol and I don't write for the status or the popularity.

Just because I can't get on EQD doesn't really mean anything to me. I have three stories that have been featured on here and over 200 followers. I'm only 16 and there are people on here that are 25 that haven't done as well. I'm quite happy with where I am right now.

Ah, that's good to hear. Glad you still have the drive. Some authors haven't taken rejection as well, even if they're close. Often, we'll send out responses of "Huh. This is actually really close, you only need to really make a grammar pass and fix a couple specific things, and you'll be posted" on the second submission go-around.

Two things tend to happen. Either we never hear from them again, or it winds up getting posted in the I Hate Equestria Daily group. Both things make us facehoof.

EQD is a great place for lots of news, and fun polls, and such, but when it comes to fiction, Fimfiction is the best place for it. I get that EQD wants to highlight the exceptional works, but having submitted my own story to have it rejected (and rightly so on the technical side, but not so rightly on the "I've decided to comment on how sucky your story is" side), I'm more at home with FF. Of course, like Noble Cause said, don't give up!
