The purpose of a story is that it's a story. It can be more, but it can never be less.

    Friendship is Magic: the Musical

    So I've been trying to find ways out of my recent funk, and this was one of the most recent attempts. I thoroughly enjoyed the freshman season of Hazbin Hotel, particularly the outstanding musical numbers and how the whole season could, with just a few small modifications, be made into a Broadway style stage musical.

    So I figured hell, why not do the same with Friendship is Magic?

    Our Last Anniversary

    I've been radio silent on social media since my now ex-wife and I announced our split. A few days ago, I was moved to write this and post it on Facebook. Figured I might as well post it here as well.

    Folks say it's pretty good.

    State of the Author 2023

    It's bad.

    Real bad.

    So it should come as no surprise that my wife and I are divorcing. We're having to take it slow because she's so close to the end of her degree and I want her to be in a good place to help take care of our boys. We're still co-habitating, still friends.

Blog Exclusive: 'Baby Mine' · 7:55pm Sep 9th, 2014

Once she was sure her husband was dead asleep, the pink unicorn mare carefully lifted the blankets and made her way as stealthily as she could to the nursery where her tiny bundle of joy slept.

The young mother looked down at the tiny white foal, the miracle she and her husband had brought into the world. She took in her purple mane, her minute but elegant horn.

She was perfect.

No, not perfect.

A rarity.

As gently as she could, the lifted the foal from her crib with her magic. The foal twitched once before returning to sleep. The mother held the foal close and kissed her tiny forehead. She remembered a lullaby her own mother had used to sing to her as a filly. Quietly, she hummed the melody.

Then, whispering, she sang;

“From your head down to your hooves,
you're so good, and that proves,
that you are so precious to me,
sweet as can be, baby of mine.”

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

The Hearth's Warming Eve snow fell outside as the teenage unicorn, her fur whiter than the plummeting ice crystals, made her way to the nursery that had once been her own. She gently pushed the door open and peered at the crib that she herself had once slept in.

It had a new patron now.

She looked over the crib's rim at the snoring foal, her two toned mane a tangled mess. She smiled a mother's smile and leaned down to nuzzle the tiny unicorn. A sharp pain shot through her heart as she recalled the arrangement with her parents, the secret that would have to be kept...

“M...”

The young seamstress pulled back sharply.

“Ma...ma...” The tiny beauty yawned greatly and rolled over to sleep once again.

The mother who was now a sister felt her eyes beginning to pool. She lifted the foal as gently as she could and rocked her in the air. She thought back to the lullaby from her filly-hood and, after some initial struggle to recall the words, began to softly sing;

“Little one, when you play,
pay no heed what they say.
Let your eyes sparkle and shine,
never a tear, baby of mine.”

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Finally home from the hospital, her adoring husband by her side, the unicorn with the voice of an angel looked at the ancient crib, now restored by the best carpentry magic could accomplish.

“I don't understand why we couldn't get a new crib.”

She looked at him and kissed him. “This one's special. It was mine. And before that, it was my mom's.”

He smiled. “And now it's hers.”

She nuzzled him. “Upset she wasn't a colt?”

He shook his head. “Of course not, princess.” He offered a saucy grin. “Just means we get to try again.”

She giggled. “Easy, hero. Let's see how things go with this one first.”

He nodded and yawned. “Ready to hit the hay?”

She looked back at the nursery. “I'll be there in a minute.”

He left her there with a final kiss, and when she heard the door to their bedroom close she made her way to the crib. She gazed down at the impossibly small life she and her hero had made. Carefully, slowly, she used her magic to lift her from the crib.

The little unicorn began to cry.

“Shhhh...” She whispered, pulling the foal close. When her shushes did nothing, something peculiar happened.

In one ear, she heard the soft singing of her grandmother.

In the other, she heard the familiar tone of her mother's sweet voice.

Using her special gift, the sweet beauty heard the song of generations... and added her voice to those who came before;

“Baby mine, don't you cry.
Baby mine, dry your eyes.
Rest your head close to my heart,
never to part, baby of mine.”

The song ended.

The foal slept quietly.

The lullaby lived on.

This gonna be made into a fic?

Huh, so Sweetie's more than just a great singer....

Nice to see a glimpse of a happy future for once.:pinkiesmile:

2441515 Sadly, not likely. The rules on the use of copy-written songs on this site are kinda iffy. I would hate to expand this and not be able to post it,

Just do what I am planning on doing now that I've discovered that "You Are My Sunshine" is copyrighted.

Write your own song! With blackjack! And hookers!

... That advice got away from me a bit.

this, this is fantastic. it's sad that it won't be a fic of its own since the whole possible copyright issue, but it's still more than enough that you shared this with your followers instead of none of it being seen my more than a few eyes.
