State of the Author: He does live!

So it's been a while, huh? I kept sitting down and wanting to type up a blog post on what progress I was making, but then kept either having real life intervene or writer's block set in and refuse to get off my couch. But, as those who are following the story will have been notified, I posted Dogs of Winter's latest chapter. There's the epilogue still to go before I can mark the story as

    Signal Boost: BronyCon Bookstore

So, for the bulk of the information, go read this. I'm personally 100% on board for it, but as with really all my decisions, I look at all the horsefic that I've written during my time here on FimFic and start to waffle. I honestly love all of my stories, but as Aquaman outlined in his blog post,

    BronyCon 2018 Roundup

Well, this one's a bit later than I'd intended it to be, but here's my rambling thoughts about the second-to-last BronyCon

    I regret nothing

    Horsecon Ahoy!

Yes, it's true! I will once again be at BronyCon this year, with my awesome husband Noble Cause. Looking forward to a lot of shennanigans, will maybe do the daily blog thing but am not sure yet. Bringing my tablet to try and get some horsewords done as well.

If you're there, look for the dude in the Braeburn hat/vest, or with the oversize diamond dog lanyard doodad :rainbowlaugh:

And the world keeps on turnin' · 4:18am Aug 28th, 2014

Welp, I've completed yet another circuit around the sun, and it has been quite a hectic revolution at that. I'm somewhat tired, so going to spare you my deranged half-asleep rambling, but suffice to say I'm still struggling with some hardcore writer's block, on top of the pressures from work and trying to join the Navy.

I can't remember if I mentioned this before or not, but you heard that last part correctly (well, read, but you get the point :rainbowlaugh:). I've decided to kick myself into shape and sign up to help defend this crazy-ass country and its goofy-ass citizens. Not entirely sure yet where I'll be ending up, but I've been talking to the recruiters and exploring some options. The first thing is I need to drop some of the squish on me, and study for the entrance test (because I suck at doing math in my head for the most part :rainbowwild:)

So, while I do fully intend to continue my horsewords, I do need to be shifting my attention to this, as I've been working on getting in shape for nearly a year now to join (those of you who met me at BronyCon 2013 and 2014 might have noticed the difference. Or not, I'm somewhat forgettable :ajsleepy:). And since I'm already working a spastic as hell full time job, that's going to severely eat into my writing time/ability.

Currently, I'm re-opening The Conversion Bureau: Project Thesan (for those of you who still follow it, which I love you for), along with Arceus and the Displaced Village (which I also love you for following :pinkiehappy:). I wish I could have an ETA for you, but my motivation for writing is so erratic at the moment that any estimate I do give would be very inaccurate.

Seeya on the other side :pinkiehappy:

Congrats, man, and good luck with the Navy thing.

Looking forward to more Project Thesan.

May God watch over you, sir.

Hey, it's always good to meet someone else that has military aspirations. Good Luck in the Navy!

In everyone's life, there's generally a point in time by which they separate everything they've done into a "before" and "after" pile. For me, it was my military service.

I wasn't in the Navy specifically, but I know a little of what sailors have to go through. It will be the most exhausting, wet, boring, frustrating, and cramped, and satisfying time of your life. You will work with people you can't stand and new best friends. You'll see beautiful ports and areas torn apart by disaster. You'll hate it while you're in but be glad you did it after you're out. Everything you do and see afterwards will be through that new lens. You won't be able to care about the stupid bullshit the people around you are caring about. You'll have a huge advantage when looking for jobs, and you'll have money for college—good money, at that.

But it's four years of your life, chum, and that's if you decide not to re-up. No going back, no waffling. You will put in work—hard work. You will be told to do things and, if you wonder why, keep the question to yourself. If you stay in, you'll be given people whose safety, character, and productivity are your responsibility and a direct reflection of the effectiveness of your leadership.

Get everything you want in writing, on your contract. No such thing as a verbal agreement. Don't sign until the contract looks exactly the way you want. Then, once you're in, make it your life. It's way way easier going for the single people with no kids, so if that's you, then capitalize on it. Throw yourself in and be all about it.

Oh, and I'd recommend keeping the pony stuff a secret. Really.

Well, my situation specifically has me looking at OCS. Figure I might as well put my twi degrees to use haha.

Active duty here, I can confirm this.

Cloud, if you need to talk about this, hit me up and ill give you my number so we can talk on the weekends. I can give you a good scoop on The Life and boot camp, and also, if they get you to go nuke, lots of pointers there.

I'm always down for more advice
ping me on Skype if you can, and we'll see if I can ever have a day off :rainbowlaugh:

Joining the Navy, huh? I have two friends who were in the USN, and they're great people -- completely incomprehensible when they're in the same chatspace, but still great people. You might even have met one since he's a brony that goes to cons. So I can definitely see that things might turn out well for you. If nothing else I've never heard anyone say anything bad about their navy service . . . well, except when they run into that one d-bag who has to be a jerk and ruin everything, but they exist in every group.

Just make sure you really really want this, sir. There's no going back once you're in.
