I am a college student who also happens to be a brony that loves writing. I'd like to write for a career someday but for now I am content with fanfics. I hope that you all enjoy them.

    Fanfic 101 series

For a while now I've been mulling over an idea for a semi-weekly series about grammar and writing in hopes to try and help both myself and other writers get some tips on writing mechanics. However, I was hesitant to start because I was both nervous about own own competence about writing such a series and I was also a little nervous that it might not be well received and I would just come off as a

    An Update

Okay, so I've been busy for a while which (along with my natural procrastination) has kept me from updating as frequently as I would like. So to make things easier on myself, I've decided that I won't be updating my stories for a while. This does NOT mean I won't be writing, it just means I will write them when I have both the time and energy and update them when I feel they are ready. I've tried

Top 5 Finished Stories · 12:26am Aug 5th, 2014

My family is in the process of moving this week so I'm posting this now while I'm not too busy.

Before we begin, I should clarify something I somewhat failed to last time. This list is obviously just my opinion. There are numerous stories on this website and it would be impossible for me to make a truly objective list of the best complete stories. So this list and the last one are just based off my own personal reading experience. Anyway, let's get this underway.

#5 Floret by Anonymoose-Applejack is Apple Bloom's mom (DUN, DUN, DUUUUN!) Yeah, okay, this probably isn't the most original premise, but it is an interesting one. The story mainly takes place from Apple Bloom's perspective as she tries to cope with this new revelation. This leads to some interesting often self-inflicted conflicts between Apple Bloom, her friends, and her family. However, I do have one major complaint and that is that I think the story takes to long to really address the story's biggest conflict: Apple Bloom and AJ's relationship. It does get there and it's a nice moment but the story probably should have gotten to it sooner than it did. Still, it's a good read and left me with a warm fuzzy feeling by the end.

#4 The Amazing Awesome Adventures of Tank the Tortoise by R. Dash (actually by Bradel)-So what happens when your favorite author takes too long to write the next installment in your favorite story? Write fanfiction of course! Yeah, that's basically the premise. Rainbow Dash writes fanfiction. The execution is good though. RD writes a series of spy adventures featuring Tank and the Mane 6's pets. They're cute entertaining little segments but the main story ends up revolving around RD's relationship to Tank. This was actually an interesting way to take the story and it works off pretty well. The end of the story even ties into the show which is a plus. It's a short read but definitely fun.

#3 A Dodgy Business by MLP Silver Quill-Clutterstep is best OC! The story is about AJ and Big Mac going to help Cherry Jubilee not lose her farm. However, a gang of thieves is doing their absolute best to make life miserable for them and Cherry's only other helper, Clutterstep, isn't exactly the most coordinated. This is one of the best adventure fanfics I've read I think. All the characters are portrayed really well and Clutterstep is easily he best part making up for his clumsiness with a determined spirit and kind words. My biggest gripe is how the author handles narration. I won't go into too much detail about it because it'd take too long to explain but to me it was very distracting. Still, the story itself more than makes up for it and definitely worth checking out.

#2 B.B.B.F.F.B.R. by 8686-Twilight and AJ get into an argument about which of their big brothers is the better one and have Mac and Shining Armor compete. This is a really short story so I can't go into details without spoiling but that's okay because it's worth reading for yourself. I think the biggest compliment I can give this story is that I could see it possibly being the premise for the actual show in my opinion, and when a fanfic makes me think that, then it must be doing something right. Give it a read for some good old sibling rivalry.

#1 The Weight of Responsibility by Calm Wind-Again I had a hard time picking which story should be top dog, but I think this one deserves it the most. I said in an earlier blog my favorite fan ship was Applejack and Thunderlane. Well, this story is the reason why. Thunderlane breaks a very important piece of equipment on the farm and has to work off his debt. What really makes this story work is how AJ and Thunderlane really can't stand each other at first. Both of them are actually pretty unlikeable at the start which while that sounds odd at first makes sense in the context of the story and their development is paced very well. Also, the romance itself takes a back seat allowing to form more naturally as AJ and Thunderlan learn to cope with each other. Although, easily the best thing I can say about this story is that there's no love triangle. Sounds odd but really that's a huge compliment. Love triangles are the most contrived way to stir up conflict in a love story in my opinion because their so predictable. Here the conflict is the tension and hostility between AJ and Thunderlane and it works out pretty much perfectly. Both are portrayed as flawed but sympathetic so when the challenge is finally overcome, it feels like something of substance was accomplished. Anyway, I'm gushing now. This a great story and if you haven't read it yet, do so. Right now.

So, these are my top 5 favorite completed stories. Hope you liked the list and be sure to give these all a read. I have one more top 5 I want to do but I'm going to wait on doing that until after I've moved to my new house. Until then, hope you enjoyed and thanks for reading.
