Fanfic 101 series · 10:31pm Aug 29th, 2014
For a while now I've been mulling over an idea for a semi-weekly series about grammar and writing in hopes to try and help both myself and other writers get some tips on writing mechanics. However, I was hesitant to start because I was both nervous about own own competence about writing such a series and I was also a little nervous that it might not be well received and I would just come off as a pretentious jerk, but reading through fanfics and noticing potentially good stories be ruined by both terrible grammar and just plain bad execution, I've decided I should do this.
Hence, starting in the near future, I will be introducing Fanfic 101. A hopefully bi-weekly blog series giving whatever grammar and writing advice that I can give. I want to point out now that I'm just trying to help. I don't claim to be a master writer at all. Just look at my stories and you'll see I have a lot to learn. I'll even have to do some research into some of this stuff so I can talk properly about it. This is a learning opportunity for me as well as anyone willing to read this series.
There may be some wondering why I even bother. These are just fanfictions, right? Why take them seriously? Well, I'm an aspiring writer. I like my stories to be the best I can make them. I take my work seriously even if they are just fanfics. I'm sure other writers on this site want to make their stories the best they can be as well and I want to help with that. I'm also a firm believer that just because something isn't a professional work doesn't mean you shouldn't put your all into it. Also, what if people make these same grammar mistakes in real life? They won't get off as easy there as they would on a fanfiction site. Best they learn now before they attempt to write something that is supposed to be professional.
Again, I don't claim to be some expert. I'm not. But I do know a thing or too and I want to help the other writers on this sight be the best they can be. I hope you'll give my series a shot and don't hesitate to give suggestions or point out mistakes I make.
Thanks for reading and class will be in session soon.
