Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated

    Hello all,

Just got an email from Brony Soprano concerning my health (given that my last blog was about me getting Covid, I understand that some might be a bit jittery). Rest assured, I overcame Covid and am in good health lately (probably better health because I've started working out some).

And this is why I play Tzeentch

Well, after nearly two years of dodging and playing it safe, I've finally been "blessed" by Grandfather Nurgle's plague. I tested positive for Covid this afternoon.

    Big news!

I'm gonna be an uncle come July!

Rest assured the kid will be raised as a proper servant of the Emperor if I have anything to say about it.

Merry Christmas to you all :pinkiehappy:

*looks in at the picture* And even in the 41st Millennium female armor is a chain-mail bikini... FemShep of Hunters of Death has a point...

Seeing that a fair number of the fundamentalists pick and choose passages from the bible it is not surprising that he would pick just one and ran with it and ignore some of others that may contradict it... and if I member my Sunday School lessons correctly a lot of the old laws from the Old Testament were rejected upon the Crucifixion.

*sighs* This is a good example of how not to bring Christianity into fanfiction, and as a Christian I find it an affront to my own faith because it ignore a lot of the teachings and for that matter ignores that Harry Potter has a good honest, and very Christian, message: Bigotry is wrong, and Good will always be triumphant.

Well... that was expressive. Truly a fanfic by an ignorant fool, for ignorant fools.

I, personally, am on the very conservative side of Christianity, so I probably understand where this guy is coming from better than most. Still, regardless of the message, the lack of research, effort, humility, and respect ruins any merits the attempt had.

You know it is bad when both a conservative Christian and a more liberal leaning Christian can agree on that.

2289287 No kidding, and that's no easy feat. :applejackunsure:

2289321
I wouldn't say it's difficult, right or left I like to think most of us are fairly civilized and will collectedly facepalm at Westboro Baptist, Chicks Tracts, and doomsday prophesiers.

2289335 I vaguely remember Chicks Tracts, but the bad aura around that memory stops me from ever digging it back up entirely.

2289384
If you feel brave look it up on TVTropes, but suffice to say it is something that gives other fundamentalist Christian the heebe-jeebies.

And with this fic, it could be worse Iowa could have reviewed the Prayer Warriors which is far, far worse.

2289395 I just read the first paragraph of description of Prayer Warriors on TV Tropes, and I think I want to puke. :pinkiesick:

And I'll gladly hold the bucket for ya. At least the MLP one is a troll fic, and still...

Even a friend of mine, who is a monk, does not dislike Harry Potter. He likes how it has some good life lessons and Good winning in the end. I do not like Harry Potter, but it is due to a lack of interest in it. If magic is bad, then I guess Lord of The Rings, written by devoted Christian J.R.R.Tolkien, is evil as well?

Hmm. As much as I enjoyed that review, very well done btw, I got an entirely different desire from it.

I'd like to find a merged crossover of WH 40K and Harry Potter where Hogwarts is a Space Marine Chapter made mostly of Librarians and the Death Eaters are an Offshoot Traitor Chapter made of Chaos Sorcerers.

2289663 That... would be AWESOME!!!
I do remember hearing of a story where Harry gets pulled into a Negative Space Wedgie and becomes a Grey Knight, but I couldn't get into it

2289613 I think the explanation in LoTR is that what they use isn't magic, but some other force. At least, that was the impression I got from Frodo's conversation with Galadriel in the first book.

2289186 In wondering, as someone that's seen religions worst sides fairly frequently, can you offer good ways that you can bring it as a whole to fan fiction?

Or ways many authors, beyond the bit of recent drama and the review here. Can royally botch a message like this?

I noted you reply on many different stories, but the first time ive really noted a religion aspect to the comments right offhand. So I would ask and hope to enjoy a bit of a reply on this if you didn't mind the questions?

2289709 True. However, in some circles, it is still considered magic. In 2001, in the New Mexico town of Alamogordo, a local group claimed the Lord of The Rings Books were "satanic and promoting witchcraft." It even burned copies of the trilogy in front of a church:facehoof::facehoof:. I would like to point out that I am a Christian as well. I forgot to mention that in my previous comment.

2289840
No I don't mind.

Well I think I can offer how not to do it... first don't force it down people's throats, second don't treat it as a joke. In a way I think being subtle with it is the best approach; C.S. Lewis, Tolken, and even Rowling, incorporated Christian messages into their stories without forcing it. In my case I do incorporate some of the messages into my works, but I really don't force it in.

This is the first time Iowa has done a more religious story so those replies will come quicker. I tend to be fairly laid back and no shouting to the world my faith, but I do take offense to stories like the one reviewed.

2289887 Its quite okay to hear the why, and you have a very different outlook that helps put things in a bit of perspective here. Much more so to my own viewpoints. And lewis really had some nice messages. I recall him more for the other aspects of math and english work.

But I can understand what you mean, those are what i've had experience with in many regards. And its, yeah... Not a fun experience, being kind.

And for whatever reason, Dumbledore is listed as one of his primary instructors.

All the proof you need that the author knew nothing about the Harry Potter franchise.

But because of his fatigue, Harry loses control and crashes into the ocean. Because he’s so tired, he lets himself fall and be swept away.

What? Do you think you wouldn’t fall asleep while falling to your doom? I mean, if I was falling off any kind of height it would bore me to tears.

Harry: Humph… I’m not good enough to look at the ground I’m about to crash into straight into the eye. You bore me to *splat*

Anyway, Harry sees that this guy in plain clothes is a muggle because of that, and the dude addresses Harry as “Young Man”… despite the speaker being in his thirties…

Oh, my god! Harry, get out of there! There’s no telling what he’ll do to you!

Because a stick, a broom and some other things are clearly the symbols of evil! I mean, ignore the Marks of the Chaos Gods, or any real marks and icons that can be drawn to Satan,

Mom, I’m inviting Asmodeus and Baal over for a sleepover. The strange priest who lives across the street said it was okay.

Mom: Okay, just make sure not disturb me and Mr. Lucifer’s date downstairs.

It was never stated in the books that shooting spells out of a stick or flying around on a broom is forwarding the corruption of Satan.

Levitation?! Repairing glasses?! Disabling someone who is trying to kill you?! Those are clearly the greatest evils since Abigail Williams. We should burn them all at the stake!

CONGRATULATIONS, SAINT ABRAHAM! YOU JUST REVEALED THAT YOU DID JACK SHIT WHEN RESEARCHING THIS FIC!

Also, Pride is one of the Seven Deadly Sins.

Isn’t it the worst of the sins?

I pray to God that this is the last I have to see of things like this...

Here’s something interesting to know. Pope John Paul II loved the Harry Potter books. He said, "If I have understood well the intentions of Harry Potter's author, they help children to see the difference between good and evil. And she is very clear on this."
