The Day of the Dead Anthology

The Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) is a now-famous tradition from ancient times that has been a huge part of Mexican Culture through the centuries. Like so many things in Mexico, it's influenced strongly by certain aspects of the Aztec people.

It has shaped the way those of us with that heritage look at life and death in many ways, and most importantly on the remembrance of, and honoring the deceased. We traditionally decorate little altars dedicated to the memories of those that passed away… but it's not a somber occasion.

PSA: Using AIs to Write and Publish Stories in Fimfiction

Hello everyone, this is a PSA (Public Service Announcement, for those of ESL) to put to rest consistent questions about using AI to 'write' stories and publish them here. This is not intended as a poll or a request for feedback. It is exclusively a clarification on an already-existing rule.

People ask: "Can I, oh great and powerful D, post a story or chapter that I got ChatGPT to write for me?!"

And the answer, my friend, is... No.

Absolutely not. Not in a thousand years!

    Because you didn't write it.

It is not your creation. You are NOT the author. In fact, you are the opposite.

There seems to be some confusion when interpreting the following rule:

    Don’t Post (Content)

    Phishing Awareness

Have you ever found yourself in a situation like this?

And then you magically find yourself in a suspiciously familiar site, except that you're not logged in, and it requires you to do so?

Well. Don't log in. This is a scam, and a cheap one at that.

There've been recent attempts to obtain Fimfiction users’ personal data, like passwords and/or emails through links like the one I'm making fun of above. And a distressing amount of people don't seem to know what phishing attempts are.

If you HAVE entered a site like this and put in your data, make sure to follow these basic steps at least.

All Our Best [Royal Canterlot Library]

As should be obvious from 15 months without a feature, life has taken the Royal Canterlot Library curators in different directions. While there’s still plenty of awesome stories being written in the My Little Pony fandom, we’re no longer actively working to spotlight them, and it’s time to officially draw the project to a close.

Thank you for all of your support, suggestions, and comments over the years. We’re grateful to have been able to share seven years of exemplary stories with you, and give more insight into the minds behind them. In the spirit of the project, please keep reading and recommending fantastic fics to friends—the community is enriched when we all share what we love.

    Reunions: A Swapped Roles Contest!

Okay guys here's something fun presented by Nitro Indigo.

Presented by me, I guess, but I digress.

Last year, I (Nitro Indigo) noticed that there was a surprising lack of roleswap fanfics on this site. To fix that, I decided to run a roleswap contest over the summer themed around secrets. While it didn’t get many entries, it nevertheless attracted the attention of some big authors and was the origin of two of my favourite fics. Overall, I think it was a success, so I’ve decided to run another one!

    Minor Rules and Reporting Update

Hope everyone is enjoying the new year.

Some small changes have been made to our rules as well as to the reporting process.

    Rules

"No attacks directed at individuals or groups due to race, gender, gender identity, religion or sexual identity."

This better clarifies our previously ill-defined hate speech rule and includes groups as well as individual attacks.

"No celebration, glorification or encouragement of real life criminal activity."

This includes past, present and potential future crimes.

    Jinglemas 2019

There's truly no time like the holidays. What's better than copious amounts of food, quality time with family and friends, hearing the sweet sound of Trans-Siberian Orchestra on repeat, and unmanagble financial stress from our capitalist overlords?

    Gift exchanges of course!

Site Post » Fanfiction Research Survey · 5:57pm Jul 12th, 2014

Hey folks! I'm writing to you today because I was approached by one of our own, Afalstein, who is attempting to conduct a little research project about fanfic authors. He's gotten feedback from a few other places, but who better than FIMFiction to show them how it's done? If you'd like to help out, click here to take the survey; it's anonymous* and should only take you a few minutes. After you fill it out you can immediately see the raw data, and a little while down the road Afalstein will be compiling a report analyzing the data in a followup.

Thanks for playing, and have a nice day!

*The first question gives you the option of entering your username; if you do, this will only be used to credit you as a participant. It will not be included in the raw data, so you can't be ID'd.

That survey isn't working. The age and gender tell me my choices are invalid.

Completed as requested.

What do you think is the most important thing to get right in fanfiction?
mlp vagina

Oh my god... :rainbowlaugh:

2277524
They know you're lying. :moustache:

Is this just intended for authors, or can we readers also reply?
:twilightsheepish:

Edit: After seeing the second page, nevermind, I'll leave this one for the authors.
:facehoof:

You're still doing stuff?

So, where can we see the results of this survey, once it's been evaluated?

2277578 There's an option to see the raw data once you submit your answer

Submitted answers.

Talk about loaded answers...

On reading the replies to the last few questions...
Some people just need to vent more. So much undirected anger :C

What Country do you live in?

your ass

I love humanity sometimes

Love how many of these answers are just people being dicks. :rainbowlaugh:

I have a question, since when "being" jewish is a race related stuff?

I thought we discarded this with nazism and that judaism was just a religion.

I'm not jewish, but I might see people wincing at this.

2277594 What a nice and straightforward comment.
I commend you. :coolphoto:

Done! That was fun! :heart:We should do this again sometime... er.. something like it. :scootangel:

Thanks for telling us about it. I decided to partake.

Answered honestly as many things as I was comfortable answering.

2277700

An ethnoreligious group (or ethno-religious group) is an ethnic group of people whose members are also unified by a common religious background. Ethnoreligious communities define their ethnic identity neither exclusively by ancestral heritage nor simply by religious affiliation, but often through a combination of both[citation needed] (a long shared history; a cultural tradition of its own; either a common geographical origin, or descent from a small number of common ancestors; a common language, not necessarily particular to the group; a common literature particular to the group; a common religion different from that of neighbouring groups; being a minority or being an oppressed or a dominant group within a larger community).

Did one. Do I get a cookie now?

2277744

In that case, it should have been "semitic" which includes hebrew, arabic, etc... as an ethny. And the concept of race is different from ethnicity.

2277700
I hear ya. Too bad you can't pick your own race, I'd respond with "human".

2277792

I'd rather have chosen,

"God-denying, LGBT-mongering, war-rejecting, over-egotistic, sky-gazing dust-speck of star"! :rainbowwild:

I tried to be honest, I promise.

On another note, I totally knew you were a site blogger before. I promise.

Well it was really interesting to find out some of the data in regards to fanfic authors. Evidently I fall in pretty much right smack in the middle of the whole group.

I filled it out. :pinkiehappy:

Where's the part where I get paid ninety dollars an hour just for completing Internet surveys? Every online survey pays me to complete it. All the best roboposters say so.

Done.

To be honest the rating one was hard for me to choose, and trying to describe all the nuances just got too long. There should be a category for "teen and mature" along with "PG and Teen." There's an upper end of "teen" close to "mature," after all, as well as the lower one towards PG.

Do you write most (50% or more) of your stories for this fandom?
If none, just write "None"

>Multiple choice question.
>No place to write a response.

Alrighty then.:twilightblush:

PresentPerfect
Author Interviewer

Oh, good idea. :)

Contributed. :^)

That was alot of questions:derpytongue2:

I contributed as well.

Though I fail to see how the owner of the poll is going to be able to keep up with all these responses properly. Mine was abit detailed i admit.:twilightsheepish:

All right; done. Looking at the raw data, I see someone writes for the FIMFiction.net fandom. If they mean that literally... :pinkiecrazy:
2277831 I didn't, either. But I did get two free iPod Nanos.

Taken and submitted!

If I may say so from my statistically inexperienced mind, I find this survey to be much too focused on qualitative data, but that might just be me preferring quantitative data because numbers. But good luck with everything! I look forward to the analysis of the data (since I just finished my stats course and now everything must be quantified in my mind).

I've taken this and submitted this too... some of the questions threw me off a bit, like the race... African-American and African are two different things. :applejackconfused:
And, also, the number of fanfics I write for a particular site.... I had an irk about that... :pinkiecrazy:
Like, it seems as if what you post up on fanfiction, deviantart, or here is IT. But, that's not the case with me. Some of the fanfics I write aren't even on either of these sites! :ajbemused:
But in piles and piles of papers here in my house. :pinkiehappy:
Yeah, that's the word I was looking for... in some places in the test, I felt limited... :fluttercry:
But I hope I passed along the information needed.
And for the favorite fandom thing, I put "I don't have any favorites". I love 'em all! :pinkiehappy:
Here's my fanfiction account! You guys can check for yourselves! :pinkiehappy:

Oh, and for the "lose interest" part... I prefer to say "lost steam"; because losing interest implies that you don't want to finish the story or partake in the fandom... :pinkiecrazy:
Yeah.... "losing interest" implies something much more permanent or "bad", tragic even... :ajbemused:
I mean, I think it's more "keep jumping to other ideas in your head" than "lose interest"... though that might be just me.. :ajsmug: (Not that I like not finishing stories; of course I don't! :derpyderp1: That's why now I'm so determined to finish this Friendship May Be Magic, but Trust is Power story I got in the works... :pinkiehappy:)

But, other than that, good luck with the survey! :pinkiehappy:

(8:30pm EDIT) Also, um.. I'm looking right at the page when I finished the survey (I went back and edited my answers a bit), and I can't see where I can check the raw data... sure it has it for the previous responses, but what about the raw data with ME in it? :applejackconfused:

When this research is complete will a link be posted so we can read it?

Well whaddya know, we're statistically bigger than Fanfiction.net. Though that may be a little offset seeing as how this survey popped up in all of the FIMFic users' feeds.

Thanks for sharing this, it was a lot of fun to participate in.

How interdasting.
