Hey folks! I'm writing to you today because I was approached by one of our own, Afalstein, who is attempting to conduct a little research project about fanfic authors. He's gotten feedback from a few other places, but who better than FIMFiction to show them how it's done? If you'd like to help out, click here to take the survey; it's anonymous* and should only take you a few minutes. After you fill it out you can immediately see the raw data, and a little while down the road Afalstein will be compiling a report analyzing the data in a followup.

In that case, it should have been "semitic" which includes hebrew, arabic, etc... as an ethny. And the concept of race is different from ethnicity.

Well it was really interesting to find out some of the data in regards to fanfic authors. Evidently I fall in pretty much right smack in the middle of the whole group.

To be honest the rating one was hard for me to choose, and trying to describe all the nuances just got too long. There should be a category for "teen and mature" along with "PG and Teen." There's an upper end of "teen" close to "mature," after all, as well as the lower one towards PG.

If I may say so from my statistically inexperienced mind, I find this survey to be much too focused on qualitative data, but that might just be me preferring quantitative data because numbers. But good luck with everything! I look forward to the analysis of the data (since I just finished my stats course and now everything must be quantified in my mind).
I've taken this and submitted this too... some of the questions threw me off a bit, like the race... African-American and African are two different things.
And, also, the number of fanfics I write for a particular site.... I had an irk about that...
Like, it seems as if what you post up on fanfiction, deviantart, or here is IT. But, that's not the case with me. Some of the fanfics I write aren't even on either of these sites!
But in piles and piles of papers here in my house.
Yeah, that's the word I was looking for... in some places in the test, I felt limited...
But I hope I passed along the information needed.
And for the favorite fandom thing, I put "I don't have any favorites". I love 'em all!

Oh, and for the "lose interest" part... I prefer to say "lost steam"; because losing interest implies that you don't want to finish the story or partake in the fandom...
"losing interest" implies something much more permanent or "bad", tragic even... 
(Not that I like not finishing stories; of course I don't! 
That's why now I'm so determined to finish this Friendship May Be Magic, but Trust is Power story I got in the works... 
)

(8:30pm EDIT) Also, um.. I'm looking right at the page when I finished the survey (I went back and edited my answers a bit), and I can't see where I can check the raw data... sure it has it for the previous responses, but what about the raw data with ME in it?
When this research is complete will a link be posted so we can read it?
Well whaddya know, we're statistically bigger than Fanfiction.net. Though that may be a little offset seeing as how this survey popped up in all of the FIMFic users' feeds.
