The longest chapters are always the most tedious to complete. That's why.
I should know, in the latest chapter in my main fic, I'm 3.5k words in and I'm not even 1/3 done. Ya just gotta power through it, I find listening to the openings to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure helps get the creative juices flowing.

What 2244613 said; long chapters are hard to complete because they can be kind of tedious. I know I had a rough time with one of my chapters of God Empress which ended up being 14,000+ words long (detailing the fall of the Crystal Empire and Luna's fall to Chaos)

2244736 You planning to do anything with the Static Shock series? I noticed your list had Static on it and I was just curious. Static Shock was my superhero childhood along with the Teen Titans, and thinking back to their shows brings back so much nostalgia.
2244818 I'll have to get better acquainted with Static Shock, but I don't see why not.
The DC Animated Universe is going to be my main resource for DC characters.
2244849 Nice, I really enjoyed both Teen Titans and Static Shock, they were two animated gems of the early 2000's.
I know that feel man, but keep at it. And hey, if it starts getting too long for your tastes, cut it off at a suitable spot; I've had to split a number of my own chapters in half because they started getting too long.
