Sorry! Sorry! · 4:14am Jun 16th, 2014

I know I had promised the next chapter this weekend and I swear to God it's getting close but it's just not there yet. Sorry! On the plus side, I took a moment to look at The Long War mod again for Enemy Within. I had originally tried to use the mod but its complex installation process simply wouldn't work for me. When I rechecked the mod's page on Nexusmods, I found that they had redone the mod with a simple installer so I figured I would give it a go to take a little break from writing.

Many lives were lost because of that decision.

(This is also on NORMAL difficulty)

So, in memory of the poor souls that were horribly mangled by my woeful lack of dedication, I'll be putting my nose to the grindstone to get the next chapter done ASAP. >_<

Don't care when it comes out. As long as it does comes out, I'm happy.

The holy hell?

There is no reason to apologize, we know the stakes you're up against.

Oh, before someone beats me to it, this is how that mission ended: http://youtu.be/RthgXpWDv6A?t=46s

That's what happens when you aggro TEN CHRYSSALIDS within the first 2 turns. : | The Long War mod will give you nightmares, man. NIGHTMARES.

Looks at the screen... :rainbowderp:
W...T...C!?:trollestia:

I despise chrysalids. They weren't so bad once I got some endgame gear, but I still absolutely hate them.

Heh, almost tempted to get the PC version just for this mod.

But take your time, good sir Arad.... I look forward to proofreading the next chapter.

I think you just redefined the term "Wrong Neighborhood, Motherfucker."

2210192 I still have to fight panic over them and the damned Heavy Mechs. I usually fall back and draw them to me. Something he ain't doing!

... Oh dear lord the Chryssalids.

-Grabs Arad and shakes liberally-

WHAT DID YOU DO SOLDIER?! :flutterrage:

2210192

You know what's worse? The veteran Chryssalids (there's one in the screen above, has extra health) also has the Lightning Reflexes perk. LIGHTNING REFLEXES. Tiptoes through your reaction fire to give you a big hug.

Dayum. That looks worse than XCOM Base Defense (Ashes and Temples).

2210197

I really should have gotten some more screenshots from different angles. "Oh look guys! Food's been delivered!"

Or alternately, "You've entered the right neighborhood, tasty meatsacks!"

Dude! That Mod... Dude.

Wow. That's... wow.

That's a 'fight with a grenade in your mouth and no pin so that when the monsters get you, at best you'll take it with you, and at worst, at least your mutilated husk won't zombify before turning into one of them' situation if I've ever seen one.

That squad is ROYALLY fucked.

Ohh yeah the whale level I hate that one.

you should of had M.E.C's by that mission....flamers and grenades do wonders vs the whale swarm

Arad I know your pain... Just started the long war myself about a week ago. I've had 3 of those "dear mother of god" moments so far.

That's 11 frigging chrysalids:facehoof: That's a suicide mission that's what it is.

...I think we can write that fishing village off as a loss if the chryssalids are this thick. :pinkiesick:
That's The Long War, baby!

I would have said use heavies but... they're only good for one turn essentially unless you have them with both shredder rockets and the extra shot.

Archangel armor would have done wonders:pinkiesad2:

Oh man, I'm going to have to try this mod.

Hehe, I'm pretty excited about trying it out. I just gotta finish this round of Enemy Within I'm going through at the moment.

I highly recommend waiting for Beta 10 of Long War to come out before picking it up again. B10 fixes a lot of issues, mainly concerning Exalt.

Holy Hell. I remember my first time on that mission but without the mod. I just barly made it to the Skyranger without loosing anyone. But believe me it was close, way too close.

Also, may quicksaves and reloads, because Im a sacescammer and happy to admitt it. :trollestia:

If you're doing Long War, make sure you fix the known, fixable bugs!

Looks like Terror from the Deep. I loathed that game 'cause I couldn't figure out how to get anything fast enough to deal with what the aliens threw at me. Generally faced getting mind-controlled by the third or fourth mission.

Omg arad why must you always give me reasons to play xcom
First you got me to buy EU then EW now this on top of reading your fic everything you do is sapping my time curse you
But really this is going to be some fun pain can't wait to have a squad of twelve to command :)

2210283 that's exactly what you did in the good old days. A live grenade in your left just in case

Don't worry. Delays happen to everyone. Take the time you need.

Newfoundland...

I dread that mission in any early stages of the game, let alone with THE mod enabled with it.

You are braver than I.

well... THAT'S massively terrifying!

also, take as long as you need to work on it :3 if it gets pushed back to next Monday or something, that's just fine :3

I sent my best team in, I never will forget the slaughter I saw.

...and a chryssalid for you, and a chryssalid for you, chryssalids for everyone!

Oh man, I haven't even gotten that far yet,
But I just have to keep going.
Just in the first month of this mod on normal, Mexico quit the council.

2210202 Oh good... Um, load save? But really I would probably restart at that point. Keep all but one person on overwatch on every turn. Lightning Reflexes is only good for one shoot per turn!

I remember playing that mission with the long war. It was my first time on that mission ever, so I had no idea what to expect. I consider myself extremely lucky I brought my assault with close combat specialist. As the squad was running for their lives, he stayed at the back and annihilated any chrysalid that got too close. That perk is an absolute lifesaver, and immediately after the mission, I promoted the assault to an officer position.

Thats alot of spiders aliens, i cant spell their names sorry. Also, FINALLY FINISHED ENEMY WITHIN! Took me forever but i had ONE character survive it all from the first mission. Lucky me:twilightsmile:

Oh god THAT mission. I never had so much hate for chrysalids in my life prior to that mission. It was bad enough in the original X-COM that they made babies in the corpses of my men (and civilians) but with THAT mission!? NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE. I was lucky to have 1, maybe 2 guys survive. I don't remember the 2nd guy buuuuuuuuuuut... the 1st guy was everyone's favorite former Chinese Triad agent. owo

If you ever put that mission into your story... I have no doubt in my mind that Bradford's brain will have one hell of a massive migraine of all potential outcomes because there is so much to account for on that mission as you just found out based on the screenshot.

2210740 I had everyone survive that mission, I had titan armor so...

this is what nightmares are made of. If I were them, I would point the gun at myself to spare me the horrific fate of being a zombie.

2210740
OMG YES!! He has to do it! But not in the human world, equestria! That way it will be a harder hit. Also please let it be in the griffon kingdom, it would make more sense there, cause ponies don't eat sharks. Griffons though are part eagle, and eagles are carnivores.

Oh dear... THAT freakin' mission.

Frankly, I think that Bradford going 'ee-nope. Bombardment ahoy!' makes sense if he got his precognition power ; he knows that this mission is a load of BS and thus, just get the thing nuked. Because seriously... Chrysalids spawning from basically every piece of meat at a pace practically literally greater than your soldiers can kill them, even with New XCOM's infinite ammo?

Nope. All the nope.

Oh and though I understand the author for having a life outside of the story he's writing... when you make a deadline, you respect your deadline. If you can't respect your deadline, don't make one.

I'm more annoyed than truly upset but well...

On another hand, guess it means he has a refresher regarding the game's feel.

Oh God what the fuck.
It's like playing a TFTD colony mission on Superhuman.

(But I guess it kinda turns into a piece of cake if you bring a lot of high-level assaults... which doesn't seem likely to be the case with your current armament).

I recall someone doing this for the Lets play with the ufo defense on the LPArchive on japan and the chrysalids.

Newfoundland mission in basic Enemy Within:

Still dangerous but with the right squad and before-hand knowledge it can make the mission much easier.

Newfoundland mission with Long War mod:

Get back in the skyranger, guys. Canada can go frak itself. Seriously, buffed Chryssalids with Lightning Reflexes?! Why don't they just give those demonic spiders wings and acid spit while they're at it!

LOVE LONG WAR! Seriously, that mods pretty much the only reason I've accumulated 1000 hours plus on Xcom. Given the situation, you have a perfect excuse for being late.:pinkiehappy:
