Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated

    Hello all,

Just got an email from Brony Soprano concerning my health (given that my last blog was about me getting Covid, I understand that some might be a bit jittery). Rest assured, I overcame Covid and am in good health lately (probably better health because I've started working out some).

And this is why I play Tzeentch

Well, after nearly two years of dodging and playing it safe, I've finally been "blessed" by Grandfather Nurgle's plague. I tested positive for Covid this afternoon.

They cast Aquaman · 11:07pm Jun 14th, 2014

They cast Jason Momoa to play Aquaman in Batman v. Superman (for those of you that know Game of Thrones, he's Khal Drogo.
Ignoring the fact that Aquaman's finally getting into a movie, THIS IS BATMAN V. SUPERMAN! IT DOESN'T NEED AQUAMAN! AND AQUAMAN IS BLOND!
This won't end well

*self emmolates in an apathetic manner*

Yeah, I've given my last fuck.

I literally don't care at all.....like.....at all....

I'm totally not going to see this in theaters.

Wait... they cast what is considered one of the more useless characters in DC, yet they can't pull off Wonder Woman?

*looks up Jason Momoa* Damn they got Ronan Dex from Stargate... I suppose they could dye/bleach his hair or get him a wig. Hair color is easily fixed in the grand scheme of things.

*Reads the post*

DARN YOU! DARN YOU WARNER BROTHERS! DARN YOU ALL TO TARTAUS!

2207204 well, Wondy's already been cast, and supposedly will get her own movie... But still.

My faith in this project is rapidly dwindling

2207222

Haven't there been rumors and news about a WW movie for years? And nothing coming out of it?

Iowa wait till we see him in costume before judging him. As I said before, hair color is easily changed so all of you are freaking overreacting right now.

2207230 It's not that I think he'll do bad (I have the same feeling concerning Ben Affleck as Batman) I just don't think he's necessary.

This is supposed to be a crossover between Batman and Superman. But adding in characters like Wonder Woman, Cyborg and Aquaman just makes it feel cluttered, and I fear that we'll get no time to develop these characters. Wonder Woman and Aquaman should get their own movies so that their characters are established (like what Marvel did) instead of being thrown into this movie

2207262

That is what TVTrope says as one of the bigger headscratchers. Still if I will see it then it would be for Jeremy Irons playing Alfred

2207272 oh yeah, that's one thing I'm looking forward to

I know they putting too much in that one film, but you're being put off by him not being blond? Seeing Hollywood's recent endeavors into 'political correctness', you, WE should be happy, that Aquaman isn't played by Lupita Nyong'o.

I have a VERY bad feeling about this movie.

This is going to be the biggest flop of the year.:facehoof:

2207318
Even if the movie is horrible we know that he will have the time of his life

2207325 It's mostly petty criticism, I'll admit. The biggest problem I have is that he's in an overcrowded movie

Well, after the EisenLuthor mess, casting a Hawaiian Conan as Aquaman is pretty expected. Makes the character seem like the "Semi-Barbarian King of the Seven Seas" variation rather than... whatever other interpretations there are to Aquaman. (the classic DCAU is pretty much my only knowledge of anything DC. No, I'm not gonna start arguing what kind of guy Aquaman is supposed to be).

And yeah, it'll be one hell of a fanservice film, but most of the stuff will likely have nothing relevant to do with the main plot anymore than celebrated cameos establishing the bigger DC universe as "hey, we're here too, DC universe is really really big place with tons of stuff going on, just wait for our upcoming films". Also, I liked even Iron Man 2 despite it being partly an awkward collection of Avengers tie-ins. (And by now you are free to call me a sheep and a tool ).

2207201 This is gonna come out the same day as Captain America 3. Marvel is gonna slaughter the competition at the box office.

2208082 Nah, Iron Man 2 was just disappointing, not bad.

2207204 Aquaman is one of the most useless characters at DC? Dang, you haven't read the Legion of Superheroes, have you?

2208325 I was gonna say something, but you beat me too it.

Yeah Aquaman's a badass.

Its just, like Iowa said, he needs his own film to establish a set of ground rules for him (how powerful is he, what's he capable of, what kind of Aquaman is he, etc), and not just be stuffed into the corner of an already crowded movie (we have the vast majority of the Man of Steel cast returning, AND some of Batman's supporting cast AND Gal Gadot AND Cyborg AND Holly Hunter AND Eisenberg!Lex...)

Also, I'm in the school of folks, who belive that the main flaw with Iron Man 2 was that it was just too cluttered. That's why its a bad movie. Not only did they WAIST an excelent actor on a (very) bad version of Justin Hammer, but they also tried to do a TON of expositing/set-up for The Avengers, AND do Demon in a Bottle AND Tony's reactor killing him AND War Machine...it just ended up being an annoying, unfocused disaster.

2208455 I'm not sure it was a disastor, but it was flawed and that was one of its flaws. Demon in a Bottle really deserved more developing time. It's something I've noticed creep into a lot of comic films lately.
That's also going to be something we're going to have to tackle with Iron Mare; there are a lot of big IM stories that should probably be addressed. Besides her origin and Demon in a Bottle, we've also got Iron Monger, probably something at least Armor Wars-esque…probably do something like the Dragonseed Saga in order to do the Mandarin justice. Most of the rogue's gallery probably won't be able to be introduced.
And, yeah, I really want some Aquaman films. It fits the trilogy format very well. You can have the first film about him discovering his inheritance, romancing Mera, fighting Black Manta and becoming accepted by Atlantis; the second film can have him fight Ocean Master, lose his hand, and fall out of Atlantis' favor. And the third film can have him suffer existential angst before pulling himself together and defending two societies that don't appreciate him from….I dunno, Mera's sister or something.
I kind of hope a lot of these roles are, like, split-second cameos. Or an after-credits scene that features all of the cameos. Like WW, Aquaman, and Cyborg all show up to discuss whatever the threat is for the Justice League film. I'm hoping for White Martians.

2208667 yeah we should work that out. But in PMs for obvious reasons.

And that actually looks like a legit blueprint for an Aquaman series. It hits the main points, while still not treating the audence like their stupid.

Now, I expect a wave of disapproval, but I think Jason Momoa will fill the shoes of Aquaman nicely. He is a competent actor and has an intimidating, primal stature that seems to fit an exotic king of an undersea kingdom.

I know Aquaman is blond, and were it up to me I would have cast a blond-haired actor like Kevin McKidd or Liam McIntyre, but then again I can't see the future and conclude whether Momoa will fail in the part. Disagree with me as you will. At least put an end to the undercurrent of Aquaman as a wimp or a joke by being his usual baddass self. :twilightblush:

2208706 Makes sense. And, yeah, you can tell I've thought about Aquaman films before.

2208667 Mind if I steal that for if/when I do Aquaman?

And I heard hints that Ol' Stone Face (Darkseid) is going to be the Big Bad for Justice League. But White Martians would be cool

2208766 If they do go with that idea, I'd watch that movie. I'm half tempted to go see Dawn of Justice just so I can do a review of it (and to see if maybe DC surprised me), but if it was set up that Aquaman and Diana are gunning for Supes because of what they felt was his fault, and end up bonding over Lex being evil, it might be interesting

2209003 Go ahead; it's not terribly new. Just a mix-and-match of stuff from Aquaman's post-crisis origin, the episode The Enemy Below from Justice League, and the miniseries Brightest Day. Heck, I think the only thing I came up with by myself is the idea of Ocean Master keeping the throne.
Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if they did Darkseid; they're really trying to sell the New 52 origin for the Justice League. And besides, since they're trying to catch up with Marvel, they want to introduce Darkseid to counteract Thanos. But for me personally, Darkseid is a New Gods villain, and I'd rather a storyline where we introduced all of the New Gods and then introduced them to the Universe at large. I'm not saying Darkseid as the first JL villain is bad, but it's not what I'd personally do.
And to elaborate, I always found White Martians to be the best intro villains for the Justice League I've seen so far not only because they're powerful, but also because as Martian Manhunter villains, they give him importance from the very beginning. Which is good, because it can be hard sometimes for a guy with as small of a Rouges Gallery as him to make an impact. Plus, I think they have more thematic resonance than intro JL villains like the Appelexians, the Centre, or Starro, who tend to be mindless monsters and two-dimensional conquerers.

2209010 Yeah, I tend to watch films just to give them the benefit of the doubt. And even if it does bomb, the review can still be fun.
Also, given the level of destruction in the last film, whether you think it was appropriate or not, I can definitely understand people being peeved. Gives the destruction the weight it needed, when the film itself didn't.
"Hey, let's cut from our hero breaking someone's neck to him smiling and making jokes!"

Well, What do you know DC Movie universe is crushing itself WITH so much appearances of Heroes and Heroines that have no origin story yet who are in no way named Batman OR Superman.
I wanna say they are preparing a Pseudo-Justice League Movie from this VS movie but then that's a whole lot of cash to pay the actors for. Or they are just Hyping us with 'So many Heroes'.
